SNA's fare is on stand-by basis. This means you don't have to purchase the tickets before you enter Japan while ANA and OW fares require you to do so.

Some tourists may find the fare very useful.

Not so sure how many tourists on a short trip will want to hang around an airport hoping standby space is available!

Richard san, Japanese careers are not so good at yield management and inventory control.

The average seat occupancy of SNA in Oct. is 68% only.

32% of the seats were available for stand-by.

SNA might fill more seats if they actually promise a seat to people who are interested in this offer. As Richard pointed out -- for a tourist with a limited time in Japan, the risk idea of making a trip to Haneda only to be told that the flight is full just doesn't seem worth the risk. If SNA doesn't get that, they don't deserve to fill even 68% of their seats.
