Puglia

Has anyone travelled to Puglia? Am planning a trip there and plan to spend 2 nights in Lecce and can't decide whether to spend 3 or 4 nights farther north (south of Bari). Any suggestions? We will have a car.

Lecce is indeed a nice baroque city, also called the Florence of the South. It is worth a visit in my view. It also depends the time of the year the op's planning to travel there: best time is either spring or fall. If going there in summertime I strongly suggest to stay by the sea: Gallipoli, Otranto, Santa Maria di Leuca are all seaside resorts. If planning to stay north of Lecce but still south of Bari, then Ostuni would be a good base. Ostuni is also known as the White Town, due to the white walls and white-painted architecture. There a few nice fortified farm houses in that part of the world, and nearby attractions are Alberobello with its famous Trullis, Martina Franca and its Baroque buildings, and indeed the Adriatic Coast.
