Train from Rome to Florence

Hi, we're coming from the States later this month. I've been on the Trenitalia website, but every time i try to purchase train tix, the server crashes.

Are there alternative ways to reserve tickets for the ES train from Rome to Florence?

Thanks,

Thanks,
You can buy the tickets right from the machines in Termini. (multilingual and they take credit cards) However, at the last minute on certain days/times, some ES trains can be sold-out on this popular route.

In advance, you can get them on Travelocity (same as RailEurope).

Have you tried the Trenitalia site from another browser? Maybe some scripting is being blocked. (Firefox?) I'm pretty sure that you have to register first now, before you can buy a ticket.

The e-tickets that they use are real handy. The conductor just scans them with a handheld machine.

I bought several tickets from Trenitalia on-line last summer. I received reservation codes that I entered into machines in the Rome terminal. No problems what so ever. As I recall the machines had a button to select "English" and they printed out the standard train ticket.

ChgoBob is right, you have to register as a user before purchase.

At the ticket machines in Termini (and all over Italy), you can buy tickets several days in advance. Never had a problem with availability.

Also better than online since the actual schedule doesn't always match the online schedule.

We just did this route twice last week. It was very easy to purchase the tickets at the termini station and the SMN (Florence station) from the machines.

If you are going to FCO you will need to purchasse a ticket on the Leonardo express, which is 11 Euro. You are supposed to "validate" the Leonardo tickets, but if you don't, as we discovered, no one checks the tickets anyway (from the airport to termini or other way around).

Not true. They have regular random checks, you just got very lucky. In the event you do not validate the ticket, there is a substantial fine.

Thanks,
I used to be able to book and buy all my train tickets online, but of late, for some reason, I am no longer able to do this. The system seems to crash frequently, and occasionally credit card payments are not accepted when using a foreign card. However, it shouldn't be a problem getting a ticket from Rome to Florence as the services are plentyful. The only hiccup that might occur is that the Eurostar services require a obligatory seat reservation as passangers are not allowed to stand, and sometimes trains can be fully booked, especially at peak times....
