Pensione Bolognese, now Hotel Bolognese, on Via Palestro, near Termini was 1000 L a night, according to Google is now about 70€.
I remember clearly because it was my first trip to Rome, intending to stay 3 days, but stayed about a month at that place. It was the start of a lifelong attraction to the city.
