Update December 2018: it looks like some accounts are proactively being renewed in December 2018, well ahead of the stated expiration of Jan 31, 2019. It is currently unknown what criteria were used, but previous years appeared to indicate around $10K++ in IC spend only.

As before, please Divide EQPs by 10 to get $$$ Spend

Was a relief to see this in my statement:
04/01/2018Royal Ambassador Renewal
The app card showed expiry on 30 Dec 2019 as well as posted by other FTs.

Had around 60 nights (50 IC nights) and around USD13K+ spend

So are we jumping to the conclusion that it's $10K +/- for renewal, once again, based on a few data points already?

Please, everyone, if you don't mind, please input it into the wiki, whether you got renewed or not, it would be greatly appreciated.

"the expectation is" ... xD
btw. I only mentioned my spend, nothing about nights.
Can you please DM the email address of the person you spoke with? I am irate after just being downgraded as a long time RA with over 50 IC nights and $10k spend. Not to mention the other 150 IHG nights and other $30k spend.

Downgrade to Spire AMB.

49 IC paid nights, 10k spend, 79 paid IHG nights, but many IC stays were not counted correct in my account and I had to email the AMB desk.

It's so frustrating getting downgraded. That's an entire YEAR dedicated to staying at ICs and IHG hotels, going out my way to book these hotels even if they're not close to where I need to be. An entire year of this! Over 200 nights and $40,000 spend with IHG. I did not stay once at another hotel chain; complete brand loyalty. What else does IHG want from me? If my efforts this year truly don't cut it, I will absolutely be switching hotel chains and IHG will lose ALL of my business.

With that said, can someone recommend a comparable program with a unique top-tier status that provides nice benefits (i.e. suite upgrades, lounge access, etc.)? I'm already Hilton Diamond through a status match and I'm not impressed. And Marriott Platinum also seems boring. Maybe SPG or Hyatt?

I assume they wanted a higher spend at ICs than $10k (and possibly more than 50 nights at ICs).

It's been assumed on this forum for some time that they would only consider IC spend (and possibly nights) and not really interested in other IHG spend.

SPG. You get Marriott with it as well once you qualify for SPG Plat.
Lounge access is guaranteed for Platinum members. Suite upgrades are NOT guaranteed, but neither is it for RA.

I would not call it 'unique' in any way though.

Renewed today. Still not staying with IHG until February 15 at the earliest. All stays until then will be with Fairmont and Hyatt.

That's fair. I still thought I'd stick with other IHG brands just in case that played a role, but it's clear that it didn't. It's difficult because Intercontinental hotels aren't in a ton of US cities, and often it's not an option. But whenever it was, that's where I stayed. I guess for the upcoming year I will stay in ICs when there's one in the city I'm in, otherwise I will stay elsewhere. That way if I requalify for RA next year, great, and if not it's no big deal because I didn't put any extra effort in. I really didn't enjoy staying in crappy Holiday Inn Express hotels, but I thought it would help. I won't be doing that any more.

So if I get SPG Platinum, I also get Marriott Platinum? Does it work the other way around too?
