That's good news (the future HIX, not the delay). The CP may be great, but it's too expensive to fully enjoy it, as most of the times you are bound to just spend a few hours there, sleeping basically...

HI Warsaw Central leaving IHG

Couldn't find any posts on that:

HI Warsaw next to the central station will taken over by accor with the beginning of 2013 and rebranded as 'Mercure Warszawa Centrum'.

HI still keeps this rather secret, but accor has it already listed.

See my post here

Well, as you said in the other thread, with the Interconti around the corner with sometimes silly prices, it probably didn't make too much sense for them to keep it up. And, IIRC, it was a pretty worn property... needed a renovation anyway

HIX Bergamo is not bookable for any possible dates in the future. The hotel is quite new, so I doubt it is closed for renovations. For 10K it was rather good.

New IHG developments in Poland

The developer's plans envision 17 new hotels across Poland within the next seven to eight years

Hotel developer the Polish Hotel Company is now finishing preparatory work and will launch construction on a new hospitality project in Katowice, in Silesia, in April next year, said Miguel Martins, general manager of the firm. (...)

The scheme will be the second of a total of 17 new facilities that the Polish Hotel Company plans to deliver in Poland in the next seven to eight years in partnership with the international hospitality market giant InterContinental Hotels Group.

The first of those facilities, the Holiday Inn Express Warsaw Airport hotel in the Polish capital, recently held its grand opening. More openings in Warsaw, as well as in the other large Polish cities, are set to take place in the upcoming years.

The development process will be divided into two phases, the first of which will involve the construction of new hotels in the largest Polish cities including Warsaw, Kraków, Gdańsk, Poznań and Wrocław, Mr Martins said.

In the second phase, the company plans to expand to some of the other major regional Polish cities including Szczecin, Bydgoszcz and Lublin. In the next two to three years, approximately eight new hotels will be opened, Mr Martins added.

I think they mostly "go", Milan and Rome lost significant number of properties (HIs and HIXs mainly) over last couple of years, but very few opened. IC Milan is not finished yet (ever?), but it is hardly a replacement for 30Eur 2-4-1 HIXs.
I guess the main reason for leaving are high fees that have to be paid to IHG.

It is certainly more due to the structure of the Italian hospitality market (few level of transactions/new projects, mostly family run properties, poor occupation rate/profitability).

Marriott, Hilton, Starwood have poor positions also in Italy. Accor is an exception.

IHG Continues to Expand in Germany: Group Signs New Franchise Agreement

InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), one of the world's largest hotel companies, has signed a franchise agreement with Arcadia Hotelbetriebs GmbH Stuttgart to develop five hotels in Germany and Austria, continuing the growth of its Holiday Inn Express brand. The new agreement with Arcadia is IHG's fifth multi-development agreement with a partner in Germany. (...)

The first hotel to open as part of the new agreement with Arcadia will be the Holiday Inn Express in Osnabrück. The new build hotel is in a central location at the corner of Niedersachsenstrasse and Pottgraben near the main railroad station. The hotel is scheduled to open in the first half of 2014 and features 152 rooms and two conference rooms.

Arcadia already has franchise agreements in place with IHG for the Holiday Inn München Süd, the Holiday Inn Express Gütersloh, and the Holiday Inn Salzburg.

Holiday Inn Express debuts in India

InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has officially debuted India’s first Holiday Inn Express in India.

The hotel, and a further 18 properties under the same brand are being developed through a joint venture partnership between Duet Hotels India (DIH) with 76% stake and IHG with 24% equity stake.

Located in close proximity to the airport, Holiday Inn Express Ahmedabad offers 173-rooms. The hotel will focus on providing guests with quality, well designed rooms, a core range of facilities, free Wi-fi and breakfast.

“We identified a gap for quality mid-market hotels across the country and fulfilling the growing demands of these guests is our business focus. The mid-market hotel space in India offers a compelling investment proposition, with favourable demand-supply dynamics and an attractive build cost to operating returns equation,” said Naveen Jain, President of Duet India Hotels.

“Our strategic partnership with IHG gives us with the platform to tap into the full potential of this opportunity. At Duet, we concentrate on the property asset using our expertise to find the right site and building the product. IHG then manages the operation of the hotels on our behalf. The strengths of our two organizations combined will ensure these hotels succeed,” added Jain.

The demand is there for branded hotels that people know and trust – midscale hotels in India currently represent just 15% of all hotel rooms and this means there is incredible headroom for growth. If you look at domestic trips, Ahmedabad is one of the cities benefiting from a strong, local travel base and a clear gap exists in the mid-market segment,” said Douglas Martell, Vice President for Operations in South West Asia at IHG.
