IC Bucharest: important renovation programme to be completed in 2009

I would like to thank you for the Comment Form which was on my desk this morning. Please rest assured that your remarks are taken seriously and much appreciated.

InterContinental took over the management of this hotel just over a year and a half ago and we are currently in the middle of planning a complex renovation programme with the new Swiss major shareholder. This is estimated to cost around Euros 28M, so you can see that we are fully aware of the fact that a renovation programme is required. This will involve complete renewal of all lifts, gutting and reconfiguration of the 21st floor and the lobby, restaurants, bar and kitchen, lots of back of house work and the introduction of 100 new rooms which are currently out of service on Floors 4 to 7 inclusive, as well as many other priorities. We anticipate starting in early 2009.

The new Club Lounge will be newly created on the 21st floor and will cover nearly 400 sqm. It will be sensational. The present one is temporary and we are reviewing improvements there.

Hotel recently changed (reflag) from a Hampton Inn to a Holiday Inn Express. Major renovations were completed in June 2008, but some minor renovations still on-going. Hotel is open for reservations:

According to the front desk from where I am posting this post from, the HiEx in Broken Arrow, OK is going to become a Springhill Suites by Marriott.

So far I have had a good time here in this hotel. Too bad it's leaving

Does anyone have any updated information? I attempted to make a reservation for late October at the new IC, but it's not taking them yet on the web site.

Of course, this doesn't necessarily mean that it won't open on October 1, but have they published any information one way or the other?

The only published information I've seen recently is on the IC website which merely says opening 2008.
