Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Girlfriend and I were generally happy with the hotel
Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked "Deluxe 1 King" with my Chase Free Night (the old IHG Select card). Upgraded to a higher floor with a lake and pool view
How are the rooms?
Liked the steampunk theme, really gives the room personality. Didn't use but appreciate that the closet has two bathrobes, a yoga mat, and an umbrella. Shower had normal size pump bottles. The soap beside the sink was really interesting - it smelled like ginger even though it didn't have ginger
----
Used the Nov/Dec 2021 secret word "Just Chillin" during check in. The check in person had to check with her manager what the reward was - was offered a choice of late checkout or $15 food and beverage credit.
Breakfast on the 4th floor restaurant was a $20 breakfast buffet - but the selection was very seriously lacking -- scrambled eggs, bacon, and some pastries (e.g. danish) but no bread or bagel or english muffin. Not worth - the first floor cafe is a better deal
Really wish the hotel has self parking available, paid $58 for valet service (a nearby parking garage wanted $68 for 12 hours of overnight parking - so it was cheaper to valet)
Offered a bottle of water and a can of some local Austin beer at check in

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes
Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
2 Beds Queen river view. Initially told I had been upgraded to a "Bungalow". Sounded good, but upon seeing the room obvious it was a downgrade. Entered room, one bed, bathroom with roll-in shower. Second room had bunkbeds. View of front of hotel with extensive road construction. Called to front desk and asked to be given the room I had booked and so they moved me. I looked at their website and do not even find a "bungalow" or room with bunkbeds. We were 2 adults, no kids.
How are the rooms?
OK clean, a bit dated. Kind of a medieval decor/vibe. I've stayed in more pleasing Kimptons. Second room did have a view of the river as booked.
How was your complimentary welcome amenity?
NA
Did you raid the minibar? If so, what did you take?
NA, no minibar
Were you offered a Chef's Taste at Dinner, If so, what did you receive?
No
Did you use the free spa credit / did the hotel participate? If so, was it a good value?
None
What was good and what was bad?
No resort fee for free night, had a second paid night. $10 credit on valet parking part of resort fee. Ate breakfast and dinner in the restaurant. Food was good enough, dinner was not worth the price IMO. On my paid night I added breakfast for an extra $10. At check in agent said get anything from the menu and we'll take the charges off. At check out different agent said I would get $50 credit. I told him what the first agent said and he firmly reiterated $50 credit. My bill came to $58 so I did not belabor the point. Valet parking was quick and efficient. 600 Amenity points for both nights posted immediately (not offered any other amenity).
Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
With all the taxes for Portland and resort/amenity fee, added quite a bit to the cost of the room. Doubtful I'd return mainly due to the shenanigans they tried to pull at check-in with the "upgraded" bunkbed room. Not the Kimpton experience I've had at other properties in the past.

I also said I (personally) would not return. But you're right . . . I debated how to answer that question. I wasn't pleased, I was neutral I guess. Tried to look at it from the perspective of someone who might not encounter the same issues. The property was at least clean and in a nice location by the river.

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay? Yes
Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked: Chase Free night standard king room
Received: Same, 4th floor, decent street view vs alley view
How are the rooms?
Eclectic. Love the Kimpton brand in general, but the room decor at the Journeyman doesn't quite fit together.
[If you are Spire and Inner Cricle]
How was your complimentary welcome amenity?
Did you raid the minibar? If so, what did you take?
Received $10 hotel bill credit.
Were you offered a Chef's Taste at Dinner, If so, what did you receive?
Did you use the free spa credit / did the hotel participate? If so, was it a good value?
What was good and what was bad?
As the hotel is local, called front desk ahead of time to request early check-in. Gabrielle was phenomenal and said to come on over. 12pm early check in. Provided 1pm late check out. Used the social password "just chillin" and received a gift bag with lotions, balms, etc and (2) free drink coupons. The drink coupons alone are probably a $30 value. This was in addition to the social hour from 5-6 which had resumed. Rooftop bar, The Outsider, is always a good time.
Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
Seems the going rate is about $270 nt w/taxes- used Chase Free Night with $89 annual fee. When factoring in early check in, checkout and drink coupons, I feel I got outsized value for a $89 annual fee.

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes, very much.
Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked cheapest rate and was upgraded to Ocean View Suite King Bed.
How are the rooms?
Around 45sqm large.
Bedroom with very comfortable bed.
Alarm clock with usb sockets.
Large bathroom with bathtub and separate walk-in shower, with two showers (really not a fan of the shower, which combines water pressure and temperature: you have to put the pressure to the maximum to get hot water, which makes the shower uncomfortable, and splashes water outside the shower)
Excellent Atelier Bloem toiletries.
Living room with sofa, desk and cool vinyl record player.
Small balcony with view over the ocean and city.
No coffee machine/kettle.
Small closet
Yoga mat
Large flatscreen television set with easy connection to your own devices. Large choice of cable channels (but poor choice of international channels).
How was your complimentary welcome amenity?
Sparkling wine, 2 bottles of water, orange juice and a mix of nuts, chocolate and dried fruits
Were you offered a Chef's Taste at Dinner, If so, what did you receive?

Good:
Very friendly staff, who does everything to make your stay great
Unbeatable location just by the sea.
Great free bicycles to discover the neighbourhood
Good brunch.
