2019 Points Devaluation ***January 25th***
There are 696 properties which are having their points requirements changed on January 14th.
570 I.E. 82% of these properties are increasing in points value.
Approximately 440-450 of the hotels affected are in the U.S.A.
The average property value is changing from (an average) of 24,000 points to 27,180 points.
There are no new 70,000 point properties.
There are no properties >70,000 points.
All in all, I think it's generally fair enough and not too extreme.

Many thanks for that heads-up Lionheart.
I had just booked a few ihg rooms on points this morning, mainly at the CP at Manchester Airport and also a few other places.
I think I will get cracking and get a few more booked.
Thanks again.

Thanks, great info as I guess IHG is not in the mood to give an official notice to program members. A class act by IHG as always

The averages don’t look bad but that only applies if you spend a lot of time in Mexico, Russia, and Turkey to enjoy the reductions. If you stay a lot at US properties then you are seeing 25% increases. Look at Florida. The increases apply to, what seems like, most of the properties in the state. This is actually a massive deval for most folks.

A devaluation is different than pricing going up from supply and demand of desirable locations

Thanks for the heads up. Hotel Mrs. and I stay at during our twice yearly trip to FL is going up in points and I had not booked the spring trip (just been putting it off) but they are raising the points needed so was able to book rooms for both trip to and return trip at the lower rate.
Thanks again

IHG consistently jacks rates at places I am willing to burn points at places I stay at (HIXes and Candlewood Suites in locations or times when they give good value). This might not seem too bad to someone who only burns for Intercontinentals but seeing point requirements jump 25-50% in a year is why I dont trust them as a brand and loyalty scheme any more than I would trust anyone paying me with a wheelbarrow of Zimbabwe dollars. IHG is earn and burn ASAP for me.

A couple of places I might have spent points at have gone up 5000 points and nothing of interest to me has gone down. It is not great, but it could have been so much worse.
The title of the document "2019 Point Changes Summary" implies that these are the changes for the year. Is it safe to assume there will be no more changes likely during 2019?
Hilton these seem to increase rates at will and without any notice. Recent point changes at Hilton have hurt me much more than these from IHG.
