What is your Priority Club status? Platinum

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay? -yes

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive? booked two queen standard on points, got two queen standard

How are the rooms? pretty much what you'd expect for a modern-looking American HIX build fairly recently. The staff seems to be trying hard to not let that shiny new glow fade away.

How is the exec. lounge? N/A but there is a very nice rooftop deck and garden area for all the guests to use when it's not raining

What was good and what was bad?

Good-
Very good example of a HIX- rooms still seemed new and housekeeping kept them very clean
Part of their eco-friendly thing is that they'll give you 1,000 bonus points for skipping housekeeping for a day on a longer stay
Staff didn't just do the minimum- a problem with the cable box on our room tv was resolved that night by a front desk clerk instead of punting the problem to the morning shift. Breakfast bar staff kept refreshing food right until the close of breakfast.
Not much in the way of well-kept three star properties on the Olympic peninsula so they're meeting a need

Bad-
I like really hot showers and part of their eco-friendly thing seemed to be turning down the temp on the water heater. The system seemed to have to work a little hard to get to my preferred 'lobster boil' temperature
A little further from Olympic NP than the options in Port Angeles, so if that's the reason for your stay, it's about another extra 40 minutes of driving a day to get to the more noteworthy park areas.

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return? It's only 25K a night for points right now, which is a great value compared to some of their summer rates, especially on weekends. If they've got award rooms available, buying points through Points + Cash might get you a better rate than paying for the room outright.

Would definitely return if I was in the area- they're a good option for the NP if you're looking for the elusive well-kept middle market property in a region that tends to either be a lot more expensive or old one star motels and cabins.

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay? Yes

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive? I booked a queen bed club room and was upgraded to a king bed club room. I was asked if I preferred a room with a bath or shower.

How are the rooms? Great, corner sofa with table, UK plug sockets, nespresso machine, bath robe and slippers, floor to ceiling windows.

How is the exec. lounge? We ate light dinner and breakfast in there. Both were generous. Didn't see any spirits, just wine and beer.

What was good and what was bad? Free travel pass for the duration of our stay. When we printed our boarding cards on the last day, there was an odd system of printing. An extra cover sheet printed out for each separate document. Bit wasteful of paper and ink.

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return? With a room rate of just over £100 a night this represents excellent value for Geneva. This was my second stay in recent months so I was offered 600 welcome points and both of us were given a drink and tapas voucher for the bar.

Kind of

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked the "king leisure" room. 2 days before check-in the reservation showed an upgrade to "1 bedroom junior suite." At check-in I was offered the "king leisure" room and the status on my IHG app also showed a downgrade (?) back to the "king leisure room."

How are the rooms?
Clean, comfortable. No issue with the room at all.

How is the exec. lounge?
N/A

What was good and what was bad?
The room itself was very nice for a HIX. They have reserved parking spaces out front for Platinum and above members...the first time I've noticed that.

The upgrade and the reversal of the upgrade left a bad taste in my mouth. I'm not at the point where I expect an upgrade (although I usually get one), but this is the first time I've been told I got one then had it taken away. I showed the clerk the confirmation I printed before I left showing the upgrade, and she asked me "is the suite the room you actually booked?" When I said no, but the upgrade appeared a couple of days ago, she said "well, I don't know anything about that. And we're completely sold out tonight." She wasn't rude but wasn't apologetic at all.

I'm not sure if this is a computer glitch that I automatically got put into a room that the hotel later decided to sell, or if the hotel manually upgraded me then canceled the upgrade. I'm going to contact the property. I'm not going to be asking for anything - I got what I paid for - but I would like an explanation from the hotel. If it's a computer glitch that's automatically upgrading elites then maybe they don't know about it either.

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
I paid C$146 / US$115 for the one night. I wouldn't say it was a bad value but that's kind of high for an HIX on the outskirts of town.

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Very much

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
I booked the cheapest King Bed Standard Room and was upgraded to a Suite Mountain View, the best rooms they have

How are the rooms?
Large enough for 4 people, even larger for the solo traveller. The furniture is quite new (even if it doesn't look too upscale), and the bathroom, with a separate shower and a jacuzzi, is faultless.

How is the exec. lounge?
Surprisingly, n/a.

What was good and what was bad?
- GOOD:
I had read some bad reviews about it, but I have no complaints at all. It all started one week before my stay, when I got a call from the concierge (a first for me), letting me know they were looking forward to my stay and asking if I had any special request.
Upon check-in I was welcomed as a Spire Elite, was told I had been upgraded to a suite (twice the price of my original choice), I was given a bottle of water (wow!), a voucher for a glass of Malbec wine at the bar, 4 PM check-out (without asking), and a ARS 200 (about USD 15) voucher for the casino.
I had dinner and breakfast, and both were fine and very cheap.
Very nice indoor swimming-pool and health centre.
- BAD:
Not centrally located, no iron and ironing board in the room (available upon request), the steam room wasn't working during my stay... nothing really important.

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
I don't know how many points are needed for a stay, but for a paid stay it's one of the cheapest IC around. I'd come back in a heartbeat.

Spire

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes, very nice.

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked Standard Room (points), Rec'd corner King Executive on 22nd floor and lounge access.

How are the rooms?
Bathroom was remarkably small for a CP. Shower had a weird closure that let some water leak out. Furniture was just "meh," seemed to smack of IKEA. Not as classy as many other European CPs. Bed was comfortable as always. My reading lamp didn't work, but as the sun went down at 22:30 and back up at 04:30 I did not complain about it.

How is the exec. lounge?
There is a good-sized outdoor terrace, albeit not much to look at besides a 3M building and a construction site.

Good breakfast spread, 3 hot plates of eggs/bacon/sausage, lots of danishes/sweet rolls, cereal, milk, cold fresh juice, fresh coffee/espresso. Tuborg and Carlsberg beer, many varieties of soft drinks and fizzy waters, and evening reception included mediterranean tapas and 8-10 wines and a few liqours both nights.

What was good and what was bad?
- GOOD:

Lounge was well stocked and attended to frequently.
Very friendly and helpful FD staff.
Airport shuttle was quick, cheap, and easy.
- BAD:
It's not in the city center.
Restaurant messed up my wife's salad then argued about it when we inquired.

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
Value for points (including upgrade) is outstanding. As it's the only IHG property in Copenhagen, I would return.

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Ish.

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
King Club. No upgrade. Partial sea view

How are the rooms?
Brand new. They follow the standard hotel layout but still manage to look distinctive because of the marine / nautical theme running through the hotel. Shower was exceptional. Soundproofing works well (important, as the hotel is on the flight path).

How is the exec. lounge?
The space is large but uninspiring - for a seafront hotel, the exec lounge is shoved to the middle of the building with little natural light. Also, not sure if because I was there during Ramadan or general, but it's only open 2 hours a day during cocktail hour. Having said that, service was good and the food spread was varied and delicious.

What was good and what was bad?
Good: Beautiful location and hotel. Large, clean pool. As the hotel is just under the flightpath, one can plane spot whilst swimming Housekeeping was scarily efficient - I left the room for all of 20 minutes and came back to full turn down service, replacement toiletries and all my clothes folded.

Bad: Service was still a bit rough around the edges but genuine. Food and drink are expensive (and locally, there is only one cafe directly opposite and a Western-style shopping mall with Western plus prices in easy reach). No shuttle service yet, but one is being set up in the next few weeks.

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
For transit, yes. I get the impression that this hotel didn't want to be just an airport hotel - but the IC is better located, better service and the same price point for visitors to the city, and whilst being by the ocean is nice, there's no beach - so not really somewhere to laze away a few days. But as an airport hotel - it's very very nice.

What is your Priority Club status?
Platinum.

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
First stay at the property. One weekend night. Highly satisfied.

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked Standard Single (17 m²), got Deluxe Twin (27 m²). Deluxe just means that the room is on the highest (7th) floor and has a little bit nicer furnishing.

How are the rooms?
Clean and large enough room for up to two adults.

How is the exec. lounge?
No lounge at property

What was good and what was bad?
+ Clean Room.
+ Nice Breakfast. Japanese CP standard.
+ Good Platinum recognition, with nice upgrade, late check-out until 2 pm, two bottles of water and some cookies in the room.
+ Very convenient location to many sightseeing spots.
- Nothing bad.

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
+ Very good value for approx. JPY 9,000 with breakfast. Would return when back in Nagasaki.

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked Deluxe Room. Received BRG claim approved. No upgrade.

How are the rooms?
Clean and large room (although Desk area is little awkwardly designed). Welcome food platter. Large well-furnished washroom.

How is the exec. lounge?
Didn't use lounge. Finger food available 5-7pm. Drinks available rest of the day. Breakfast at main lobby.

What was good and what was bad?
+ Clean Room.
+ Nice Breakfast. Although at CNY 149, little bit on the costlier side.
+ Additional water bottles delivered on request.
+ Fruit basket with Apple, Pear & Orange
+ Walking distance from Yiwu Expo. Great location for Expo visitors.

- Room service food quality wasn't great.
- No outside food/store nearby

Definitely

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked queen bed standard, received upgrade to Club queen bed including access to Club Lounge

How are the rooms?
Comfortable, clean with great quality bed.

How is the exec. lounge?
Cozy, not crowded and perfect place for breakfast or just relaxing glass of wine at evening.

What was good and what was bad?
I was not expecting a room upgrade and access to Club Lounge judging from the previous reports for this hotel, however I was nicely surprised. The club room was on the 5th floor, just 30 seconds away from the Club Lounge, which was perfect for breakfast or evening drink. The staff was courteous, TV channel selection was great (I particularly liked HBO1-3 channels). The in-room minibar was complimentary except for the spirits. Bathroom quality was good.

I cannot identify something that I didn't like.

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
Paid under 100EUR on corporate rate per night, I am returning in 2 weeks for a weekend escape

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes, very much so

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked best flexible rate, and received a club room with Happy Valley Race course view

How are the rooms?
43 sqm large
Elegant contemporary design (Miss K Lamp by Philippe Starck)

Desk with plugs sockets and usb socket. Electrical adaptor
Desk accessories such as Post-it, staples, etc.

Very comfortable bed

Flat screen television with good selection of international channels. iPhone dock to be connected to the television sound system.

Very quiet. Immaculate
Fruits basket as welcome gift

Bathroom with separate shower and bathtub.
The White Company amenities + shaving kit and others

How is the Executive Lounge?
In evening, now located on last floor, at the restaurant and bar level : during a dedicated period, choice of 2 plates and free drinks. Food is very good and service is excellent. Very nice panoramic view over the city.
Excellent breakfast is served for free at main restaurant level for club members

What was good and what was bad?
Good:
  • Very friendly and efficient staff
  • Excellent breakfast (love the choice, the delicious, fresh fruits, the interior design and quality of the service)
  • Convenient location : 2 minutes walk to metro station (and close to my office in Hong Kong)
  • Nice rooftop outdoor pool

Bad
  • Hotel was not cheap during the period I stayed at (actually the same price as InterContinental Hong Kong)
  • Air conditioning in the room: it was difficult druing the night to have a fresh room

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
Definitely an excellent hotel, at the level of an InterContinental hotel for service

Holiday Inn Berlin City-West

What is your IHG RewardsClub status?
Platinum

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked king suite, received same.

How are the rooms?
Good. The living room had a pull-out couch (bed was made up for our third person). Separate bedroom and two bathrooms (essentially two adjoining rooms, with a table and couch in one room instead of beds).

Fruit and cookies provided as a welcome gift.

What was good and what was bad?
Good:
  • Staff was very friendly and helpful. English was very good.
  • Bicycles available for rent at the hotel.
  • Fairly close to the U-Bahn, about a 10 minute walk.
  • Convenience store a couple minutes walk away.
  • Indoor pool (which we unfortunately didn't use).
  • Vending machine with beer and wine.

Bad:
  • Location isn't really near any major attractions. Getting into the main sights of Berlin means at least half an hour on the subway, more if you need to change lines or switch to the S-Bahn.
  • Location is relatively close to TXL -- taxis from the airport may gouge you to take you here. They do offer a shuttle but it isn't 24/7 and a fee applies per person.

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
Excellent value for 10k points per night and no issues with having a third person in the suite. Would consider returning, especially if I had a third person with me.

What is your IHG RewardsClub status?

Gold (at time of stay, now Plat)

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?

Yes

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Standard double, upgraded to Exec "Suite"

How are the rooms?
Pleasant. The sign on the door said Suite, although to me it was just an Exec. room as there was no separate living area etc.

What was good and what was bad?

Good:
Room was upgraded one day in advance and showed on the app
Staff recognised status and offered 400 points or welcome drink
Hotel recently refurbished following major flood from river in January
Staff were welcoming
Received a further 400 points (so 800 in total) a few days after leaving - no idea why

Bad:
Location isn't great - it's on the edge of the city centre - if you need to fall out of a pub into a hotel, this isn't it

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
Yes I would return. I paid £67 for a weekday stay on a refundable rate booking only two days before.
