Per the PC T&C

Points for Elite Status – For purposes of determining Elite status, IHG® Rewards Club points are classified as either Qualifying Points or Non-Qualifying Points. Points earned from Qualifying Rates paid for hotel stays, spend on IHG® Rewards Club credit cards, select partner activity, IHG® Rewards Club Bonus Points Packages, and Qualified Spend through IHG® Business Rewards are considered Qualifying Points and are counted towards Elite status. A Qualifying Rate includes the following: non-discounted rate, standard corporate rate, worldwide sales negotiated rate, national/regional/local government rate and specified leisure rates as confirmed by the IHG reservation system. All other point earning transactions, including points earned from IHG® promotions, Elite status bonuses, activation bonuses or select promotions offered through IHG® Rewards Club credit cards, select partner promotions, point vouchers, point purchases, point transfers, and point deposits, will be considered Non-Qualifying Points and will not be counted towards Elite status.
For any IHG property, including the ones listed below, it's a good idea to check the IHG app for additional bonus point packages. For whatever reason, the IHG website does not always include all points packages that can be found in the app.

Need some more points by the end of the year to hit Spire (been Plat for years) and wondering if there's a tame hotel (or employee) which will check you in & out even if you don't show ?
I'm on an island until Dec 30 which has no IHGs :-(

Any ideas ?

Data point: only normal room rate points posted automatically. I called IHG rewards line and was told anytime the 10K package is booked, to call them and request it to be posted. The 5K or less packages post automatically, but apparently the 10K doesn’t.

My 10K was posted, and now at 80K qualifying points this year, now officially Spire Elite!

Did you have to ask them to post them as qualifying or did they just post them and they were qualifying when you called?

I just booked there with a 25K package that cost about $90 more. There's nothing in the terms of the package that addresses one way or the other whether the points are non-qualifying. When you booked, was the bonus point rate specifically excluded as qualifying or is that the way it works because of the size of the package? I must admit that buying 1/3 of the way to Spire on a one-night addon of $90 seems crazy.

In some packages it will say that the points are non qualifying. In the two states I travel and stay at IHG I have never ever seen it state it is qualifying or not qualifying! I also have to get IHG to post those points as qualifying when it 7is a 10k package! Now the 5,000 point packages always post for qualifying for me.

If you do 7 10k you attain spire. If you do 14 5k you attain spire is how it works for me!

The 5K packages were how I qualified last year as a hotel in Williamsburg, Virginia had very generous 5K point promotions that were only $10-15 above a AAA rate (and which were only a couple of dollars more than 1K, 2K, and 4K rates) so it was easy to make that choice. I had read some old posts that indicated that for the higher bonus promotions, especially for the Indigo Brooklyn, there was more of a chance that a call/message was necessary just to get the points to post. I'm willing to do the extra work and take the chance that the points are non-qualifying on a one-night stay. At the worst, I've paid about $90 for 25K points which is about 1/3 less than any other way to buy them.

In my case the points turned out to be non qualifying. It wasn't hugely clear when I made the booking whether they were qualifying or not, but I expected them not to be because of the price. You will find the rooms in the Indigo Brooklyn terribly small. I had a pretty good meal in the restaurant, though.

Not too concerned about the size of the rooms because I've stayed in a fair number of small European hotel rooms and just completed a stay in Boston at the Yotel where small rooms are the norm. I've wanted to check out Brooklyn for a while, and the Indigo stay will help me in the current promotion--one of the reasons I was looking at any bonus point package.

Did you call them and try to argue with them that it never was stated?

I have lately found some new properties with 5K packages but the premium for that option is too high IMO. And the old ones that used to have 5K option at the same price as Best Flexible seem to be gone. Gone are the sweet spots.

Brooklyn is just great, a lot of history and a wonderful restaurant scene. And there's the famous Brooklyn Brewery, of course, to visit. It's worth going off the beaten track there. Try to find the time to go out to Red Hook.

I didn't, at the time it wasn't important for me so I just let it fly.

Just so everyone knows! I contacted IHG because my 10,000 points package did not post under Qualifying.

I got this email Today

This email communication is regarding your last stay, it shows here that the hotel issued the 10,000 bonus points however it is not counted as qualifying one, on this note I have manage to correct and this by modifying the points as issue it as 10,000 qualifying points, that would count on your elite status.

So the hotel posts the 10k points packages as hotel promotion bonus points. The IHG had to go in subtract minus 10k Rewards club goodwill and then post them as 10k loyalty goodwill points.

Pain but at the same time too all you have to do is 6 of these and you get spire!

So 10,000 points packages are qualifying!!!

But are you sure they are qualifying and not just simply bonus points? I thought any package over 5,000 points was non qualifying, like my Brooklyn Indigo one. If you're right, then this is very interesting!

@Marriott15 - it would be great if you let us know if this happens again! It seems like that there's a chance that it still works, however since it has only happened to you once it can be that you may be lucky with that CSR. What did the rate rule said on the 10k points package?

Under my 2019 Track to Elite Status my points went from 10,330 to 20,330 as soon as the points were posted as "Loyalty Good Will Points"
