Points for Elite Status – For purposes of determining Elite status, IHG® Rewards Club points are classified as either Qualifying Points or Non-Qualifying Points. Points earned from Qualifying Rates paid for hotel stays, spend on IHG® Rewards Club credit cards, select partner activity, IHG® Rewards Club Bonus Points Packages, and Qualified Spend through IHG® Business Rewards are considered Qualifying Points and are counted towards Elite status. A Qualifying Rate includes the following: non-discounted rate, standard corporate rate, worldwide sales negotiated rate, national/regional/local government rate and specified leisure rates as confirmed by the IHG reservation system. All other point earning transactions, including points earned from IHG® promotions, Elite status bonuses, activation bonuses or select promotions offered through IHG® Rewards Club credit cards, select partner promotions, point vouchers, point purchases, point transfers, and point deposits, will be considered Non-Qualifying Points and will not be counted towards Elite status.

I have noticed a lot of hotel rates have been so low with nobody really staying in hotels. A Holiday Inn Express I normally stay at and pay for the 10k package has been right around $150 with the package. I joked around with the GM today that these rates are crazy low and wish I could pay even more for points. He says lets go talk in my office.
We sit down and he starts punching in numbers on his calculator. He then says I can do 15k point package for $174. I said I can go up to $199 with my corporate rate. He starts punching his numbers in again and says for $198 I can do 20k point package with a guarantee of 8 nights a month. I looked at him and I was like you are serious 20k bonus points a stay and he said yep I can agree to that right now.
Without factoring in this current promotion if I did 8 hotel stays a month at this hotel I can bank 195,680 points a month.
I know I have preached this on this forum but I try to negotiate points at every single hotel I stay at. Some GM's are willing and some are not. I would always suggest to at least try. Also before the ethic police come out. Yes my boss is ok with this. I highly suggest making sure this is ok before doing. If you are doing this in secret that is a risk of being fired from your job that you are taking.

Have you stayed for the 20k package yet? Do the point count as qualifying points?

The GM where I am getting the 20k points from has given me a special rate code. You would only be able to get the 10k points there. No I have to get them converted over but don't bother now. IHG doesn't have life time status and I only bother doing a live chat with IHG to convert them over until I reach 75k
