When doing my previous test searches, I somehow forgot to mention/include that Avios are freely transferable between the various FFPs that use Avios as a currency (e.g. BA, QF, AY, etc) as long as the transferor and transferee are the same person...and it only takes minutes to create new accounts.
On the surface, this might sound like a minor thing, but as guv1976 suggested, the redemption algorithms differ quite a bit from program to program.
As such, I have now run new test searches on the same route (ORD-LAX, July 18, economy class) using AY and QF.
Unfortunately, AY came up empty (I'm guessing I did something wrong)

And while one would have to "transfer" BAEC Avios to Finnair Plus in order to make a Finnair Plus redemption, for QR Privilege Club redemptions, I believe that no transfer from BAEC is required: one should be able to "link" one's BAEC account to one's QRPC account after logging in to QRPC. One can then just use BAEC Avios for the QRPC redemption.
From the cash co-pay noted on the QRPC page, it appears that QR is improperly charging the $4.50 U.S. PFC fee on this zero-fare award ticket. A minor nuisance; one could probably get the $4.50 refunded after the fact if one could be bothered to file a complaint with the U.S. DOT.

- You would use your AA points to book a one-way award on AA.
- With respect to your Chase UR points, you could potentially:
- Transfer them to a oneworld partner of AA (BA, Qantas, etc.), and through that airlines program, book a one-way flight on an AA flight. Thats the option moondog and guv1976 have outlined above.
- Redeem your UR points by booking an AA flight on the Chase travel portal, (Note: booking through the portal can make further changes sometimes difficult, read the Chase forum in the credit card forum for more information).
- Transfer your UR points to United, and get a one-way United award ticket for half of your journey.
