Smile Switching to SQ, which program should I join?

Hi, I'm new to the Forum. I'm planning to switch to SQ later this year and wonder which program I should join to bank my miles and maybe get status.

I'm based in SFO and is currently Platinum with AA mainly by flying Premium Economy with CX to HKG 2x a year plus a few domestic flight to DFW and ATL. I do fly out from HKG from time to time within Asia. Any suggestion will be appreciated.

Why the change to flying on SQ?
SQ is a frequent flyer partner of UA (Star Alliance)
Getting status may be hard.

My main reason for the switch is I can get much better rate with SQ on Premium economy at $300-$500 cheaper.

OK. Money talks.
You could credit the SQ flights to UA and all others to AA as now.
With UA you may be able to get UA ff miles from non-flying activities and/or flying UA USA domestically.

With the change of most USA based ffp's to revenue based for flights on there own airline, flying the airline with best fares and best schedule that matches your requirements now has merit. And then treating any ff miles as a bonus, which may or may not, be able to be used in the future

Thanks! If this is the case, would Alaska be an option? How about SQs own program?

SQ is an AS ff partner so a good option.
AS is a very good ffp, Was even better when DL was a partner & AA a full partner.

You could join the SQ ffp. Just crunch the numbers. Have a look at the SQ subforum
Will be hard (impossible?) to get non flying USA spend into the SQ ffp.
SQ have a 3 year hard expiry of ff miles

Thanks! I'm leaning toward AS so I'll at least have some status when I fly domestic. I don't think Star Alliance Silver will be worth much. UA will be out since I won't fly enough domestic to hit $3000 EQD.
