Welcome to FlyerTalk, patjeff63

Can I ask you a question about your existing booking? Did you book the redemption booking through BA's Executive Club or through the Avios Travel Rewards programme?

If the former, you can upgrade your existing booking by contacting the Executive Club and ask for a change of travel class. If seats are available, the additional Avios will be debited from your account. You may also be asked to pay any difference in taxes and carrier surcharges.

You sure can, as Prospero suggests. However, award space needs to be available on that flight. The best way to find out if there is is to try to book a seat in the higher cabin on BA.com using Avios. If there is, call BA to change your ticket.

We're all guessing what the OP is actually asking, but this isn't "upgrading" a ticket, which is the process set forth here, http://www.britishairways.com/en-us/...ing-with-avios, and cannot be done on award tickets. What Prospero is suggesting is changing your current award ticket to a different award ticket. Perhaps semantics, perhaps not.

The OP is asking whether it is possible to travel in a higher class than he/she has booked. If you don't know the answer then that's fine, perhaps it is best to leave it to others that do.

Thanks for your interpretation/mind reading Prospero. As I said, we actually don't know what the OP was asking other than if he can "upgrade direct with BA"?

Is it possible to upgrade an award ticket? No. Is it possible to rebook an award ticket in a higher class based on the standard award chart and availability? Yes. In good faith, I believe those to be two different questions. You may be right that the OP was asking the latter question, but your insulting language is not justified, especially since BA itself says: "Avios upgrades are not available on reward flights."

If there is something wrong in my comment, please identify it. Either way, please treat me with respect or at least common courtesy.

As a senior moderator, you should be ashamed of such venom, which serves as a poor example to the community.

And I agree that Avios experts would be best to answer this question. However the OP disregarded the sticky about where posts belong, and instead posted this in the general information desk, and it remains there despite my alerting of moderators right after it was posted.

Now that I have more time, I can give you a fuller answer

If you booked your redemption through the Avios Travel Reward programme, you can upgrade the class of travel in the same way as if it was booked through the Executive Club so it is not absolutely necessary to move your Avios from one account to another to do this. Same applies if you booked through IB Plus. There will be a admin fee - 35 if memory serves plus any uplift in Avios/taxes/carrier charges.

If this gets you nowhere, it may be possible to upgrade each flight at the airport with cash. Upgrade offers are not guaranteed though. If you visit the http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/briti...ng-thread.html, it will give you an indication of cost.
