Making a long layover

I usually travel from ord-nrt-bkk. I also almost always have a 2 hour layover. I would like to leave out the next day early in the morning because its a long flight from the order to nrt. Would I be better booking a multi city flight, seperate one way tickets, or when I arrive just ask United if the could change my flight to the next day? I am just thinking in terms of price. I would think UA would not charge me extra if had room on a flight to the next day.

Just use multi-city to book a flight that leaves the next day but is less than 24 hours from your arrival (meaning it is not a stopover).

As long as the connection time is under 24 hours and the appropriate fare buckets are available then it should price the same.

You may want to try calling UA or using a (real) travel agent for assistance.

That's probably because you are creating a stopover (>24 hours between arrival and departure), which will increase the total fare. Make sure that your onward flight from NRT is a connection (<24 hours between arrival and departure) and within the same fare class (it may coincidentally be that the fare class you require is not available on the later flights) the total fare should be no different.

Forgive me but this is very naive. UA is in the business of making money which means selling you tickets with rules and fees. There are lower cost SDC, Same Day Change, rules and fees but don't expect them to just switch you because you ask. Going the opposite way (arrive early and they have open seats on flights) I have found many UA (PMCO) agents that will move me to an earlier flight with no hassle or fee as it ends up opening up a seat later in the day. Many times agents will make the offer without me even asking.

I don't believe UA flies NRT-BKK any longer. Other airlines may not be as flexible.

Your right

Its UA to Narita but then ANA onto BKK. I still book the whole flight on UA site.
