That's probably because you are creating a stopover (>24 hours between arrival and departure), which will increase the total fare. Make sure that your onward flight from NRT is a connection (<24 hours between arrival and departure) and within the same fare class (it may coincidentally be that the fare class you require is not available on the later flights) the total fare should be no different.
