New here wanting to learn

Ok, so I signed up for a frequent flyer program and decided to go with Spirit Airlines because after using several search for flights leaving my home airport of Dallas Fort Worth this seemed like the best deals. I am aware of the carry-on fee, but this would exclude a backpack that could fit underneath my seat which lucky for me I travel light anyway.

Just wanting to get others thoughts on this. For the destinations I would be frequenting this seems the most cost effective. I also signed up for their credit card to earn even more points.

Also I was curious of the disparity of points in relation to money with Spirit Airlines curious if there is a way to calculate this.

Hi Decadude, welcome to FT.

I've never flown Spirit, but want to point out that you can be a member of many Frequent Flyer programs. Where do you usually go from Dallas?

Thanks for the response yeah the flights are just cheap for me out of dfw the places I would fly pretty sure this is the best route for me.

It seems a lot of people on here with good credit are just getting credit cards for the upfront points then cancelling before the annual fee.

lol

Not sure if there are any other tips or tricks to learn to get free or cheap flights. I will definitely be keeping my spirit credit card. I wonder if like other airlines spirit comps you to first class for your status.

Welcome to FlyerTalk.

You'll find discussion of Spirit in the http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/other...-airlines-472/ forum.

Besides Spirit, from the DFW area, the most flights will be on AA and Southwest. Neither will usually beat Spirit on base fare, but may come out better once all the fees are added in.

Other than baggage what other fees are there

From what I can tell Spirit's only major difference is charging for carry ons

  • Baggage, both for carry on and checked bags (2 checked bags are free on Southwest.
  • Seat assignments in advance or requested.
  • Booking online or phone (yes, it's actually cheaper at the airport).
  • On board beverages, even non-alcoholic.

You might consider Southwest and seeing if you can get a companion pass. Credit card signups count towards that. In any event, if you have someone that would fly with you (spouse, child, friend, bookie, whatever), they would fly for free on either a paid or free flight.

My advice is dont waste your time. The prime time for frequent flyer programs outside the wealthy and OPM flyerS. Just compare the all in price and go with cheapest or most convenient option
