problem with last name on my ticket? please help!

hey there,

i recently booked a flight from frankfurt to bkk (stopover in london) with british airways. for additional info, i booked through a travel agency. i have 3 last names in my passport, 2 of them i never use. they're not on my student card, not on my bank or insurance cards or anywhere else - only in my passport. when i booked my flight through the travelagency, i typed in:

First Name: AAA
Surname: BBB

instead of

First Name: AAA
Surname: BBB CCC DDD

i contacted the travel agency and they told me i had to pay 80 euros for a name change. 50 euros to the agency and 30 euros to british airways... which sounds ridiculous to me! does anyone know what to do? what happens if i don't pay? are they not going to let me fly when i try to check in on the date of my flight?

thanks so much in advance

You should give BA a call directly to ask what they're going to want. BA will have experience with this kind of thing considering the destination. Notes can be added to the record. Then you can decide if paying the fee is worth it. The fee is not ridiculous because you agree to it when you purchased the ticket. Bet glad you purchased a ticket that allows for name changes.

It maybe depends, what surenames you have... If it's a commun one, nobody will ask about it. Thats a big problem with portuguese Pax, they usually have 3-5 surenames. There you'll be happy if you find the booking in the system :-).

Did you book a student ticket trough Statravel? If so, your student card number should be mentionned on the ticket. You could use it as cross reference.

What names contains your ID? If only one, you could also show your ID together with your passport and the officials / airlinestaff will understand it.

it's not a common one, it's a persian name but i'm a german citizen, born here and all.

sadly it's not a student ticket and i didn't have to type in any info regarding that.

my id says:

first name: AAA
last name: BBB CCC DDD

my passport says the same.

but atm card, credit card, student id card, insurance card and any other card/membership i've ever had say:

first name: AAA
last name: BBB

and that's what my ticket says as well... do you think there's any chance left?

It will be OK - worst thing is you may have to go through a little more of a security check. The name fields on airline tickets do not have enough separate fields or characters for individuals with multiple surnames and this happens frequently. Airport personnel know how to deal with it.

All you have to fear is (the) fear (of this) itself.

Your full name will be loaded into wear it matters - the passport name field on the PNR (different from the name field itself) when you first present your passport.

Nothing hear to worry about.

Don't sweat this. It happens every day, all the time. You have nothing to worry about.

Welcome to FlyerTalk.

I think you have received some good advice here. It would be different if an entirely incorrect last name were on the ticket. E.g. Darius Pahlavi instead of Darius Ghorbani.
