Please help with flights to Bali!

Hello, I am looking to book an award flight from nyc to dps. I was thinking flying Cathay Pacific jfk or ewr -hkg-dps using AAdvantage miles but since they do not fly directly to dps will they charge me for an extra leg from hkg to dps? If I book coach one pay as but business on the return will I get charged the business rate for the entire trip? Is there a more efficient way to get to Bali using points? I currently have chase ur points and some United points but am open to opening a credit card or 2.

Thanks in advance

Lots of questions here:
1) if you book jfk-hkg-dps, and have less than 24 hours stopped in HKg, you will be charged one price- the price of an award from the US to Indonesia.
2) AA awards are priced as one way. You can book at the coach rate outbound and business rate return (or vice versa).
3) without knowing how many points you have in other programs, and when you're looking to travel, hard to know whether you have better options. The best option is one that has availability on your travel dates.

No, you can fly to DPS via HKG at no extra mileage cost under the AA award program. AA awards are priced as one ways, so you can fly economy there and business back.

See: https://www.aa.com/i18n/AAdvantage/r...tner-chart.jsp

When are you looking to travel?

Thank you for both of your replies.

I am planning ok traveling in may 2016. I currently have about 60k chase ur points that I would transfer to United, ba, Korean, or krisflyer if one of those turn out to be the best bang for the buck (or Point in this case), if not than I am open to opening a card or 2 for me and my wife . I can always use the same chase points for hotel stays. I was looking into the AAdvantage citi card. If you guys have any other suggestions I would love to hear it.

Thanks again

How many AA miles do you have?

It is 90k AA miles total per person roundtrip economy one way business the other, 70k/110k for return in economy/business.

Here is another USA-DPS award request, (just a little down the page) http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/infor...d-lax-dps.html

Please note that FT is not a travel agency and/or award booking services nor does FT have a secret source of low fares and/or awards

I currently don't have any AA miles but am planning on applying for the citi AA platinum select with the 50k bonus for me and my wife as well as the business card. Was thinking of going for the executive card but the $450 annual fee is too hard to swallow expecially without the first year free.

Thats what I figured. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything.

Thanks for all your help
