Planning a trip

Trying to plan a trip to Vancouver from London via California.
Want to visit Los Angles,San. Francisco and GrandCanyon etc
From June 15th to 22nd in California
Going to Vancouver on 22nd and returning back to London on July 9th.

Tried booking partly on Air Transit and BA sale with no luck.

How do I go about sorting out best deal for this trip.

Flex able on dates.

Gabriel Pallaris Welcome to the forum

You will need to be flexible with dates and destinations.
You may get a better deal on returns from the same city. Not open jaw
Look on google.com/flights, kayak, orbitz and the like
FT is not a travel agent nor has secrets on the best deals.

The Grand Canyon is in Arizona, not California. The nearest city is Flagstaff (FLG) with limited commercial airline service on US Airways via PHX. The nearest major airports are PHX and LAS, in that order, and are likely your best bet for price although you will have to drive >200 miles from either one to visit the canyon.

Recommend booking lodging at or near the Grand Canyon as soon as possible, as it begins to fill up quickly for summertime. If you're planning to stay inside the park, keep checking even if you don't see availability, as there are somewhat frequent cancelations.

There are plenty of flights on many airlines to LAX from either of the above airports and prices should be reasonable - you may find booking those separately from your longhaul flights is a better option.

Welcome to FT!

Since others are pointing you at the airfare components, let me tackle this bit...

Don't underestimate the distances involved in the western USA. Driving from LA to the Grand Canyon is a nearly 8-hour drive. Then to San Francisco is nearly 12. (Both assuming no significant traffic or issues, which is by no means a given in those two cities... depending on the day/time, you could spend 2 hours just getting beyond city limits!) For the length of trip you're planning, that's a long time in the car! You could fly into Phoenix or Salt Lake City, but that's still a pretty solid drive from either.

Then, as 84fiero indicated, lodging that time of year is tight. If you do intend to do this, you need to book lodging immediately. (Book something cancellable, and then you can buy yourself time to figure out transportation options, and cancel if it falls through...)

If the GC is a major attraction for you, you can make it work. If you're just looking to enjoy one of the major "flagship" western National Parks, you could consider Yosemite National Park. Very different from GC, but no less impressive in its own right, and would fit right in with your planned city stops. If you want to get out and see the desert, a side-trip from Los Angeles to Joshua Tree National Park also would be a great way to see the scenery.

If you do decide to stick with GC, though, book early. Consider building your itinerary London -> PHX (nonstop on BA, conx on all others), PHX-LAX, LAX-SFO, SFO-YVR.

Good luck!

This might be a dumb question, and maybe everyone feels this about their city...but why do you want to visit Vancouver? It's a beautiful city but I honestly don't know what people come here to see! To me Rome is an obvious choice, even Romans would be able to tell that.

I love Vancouver, it's great in many ways, but I just don't see the appeal of coming strictly as a tourist
