Need advice after Airline changes

Hey everyone,

I just got into FF programs a few months ago and some members on the board recommended I credit my miles towards Aegean Airlines until I reach Gold, and then status transfer into my "main" airlines such as United. However Aegean has recently undergone some changes, and United has scheduled some more for next year (?) which I heard some people are changing because of that.

Before I get too invested into UA, I would really appreciate any advice you may have for which airlines I should credit my future flights to.

Some background information:

-Currently 800 miles with United MileagePlus
-Currently 9000 miles with Aegean Blue Status (Not enough for any award ticket...is there anything I can do with these or are they wasted?)
-Typically fly USA <-> USA 2-3x/yr, and USA <-> Asia 1-2x/yr
-Not really any "home" airports until I've settled down, but will likely fly to Chicago, NYC, and Beijing primarily
-Priority of benefits: Free Award Tickets > Seat Upgrades > Other benefits (lounge access, priority boarding, etc)

I'm a college student with most of my expenses paid for by my parents, so I'm trying to cut down wherever I can to save them some money. I'm a little bummed that I wasted 9000 miles on A3 since the change makes it impossible for me to reach Gold, and I don't think I can redeem it on anything as I don't plan on visiting Greece any time soon.

I would appreciate advice on what to do and where to credit my miles from here on out. Thanks in advance guys ^

You cannot "status transfer". But you can get benefits of Aegean status on other Star Alliance flights
In practical terms you cannot transfer miles from 1 ffp to an other ffp
Award flights are not free. Most to all have taxes and some have high cash surcharges. You can redeem Aegean miles on any Star Alliance flight if you can find an award seat/flight. Does not need to be Aegean flight.

Maybe AA is not bad for you is you can fly with Cathy pacific airlines and you will get your miles based on distance and not how much you paid for.
