Best flight to Venice?

Hi, hope this is right thread....

We are trying to find a good price flight from YVR to Venice, and then Munich to YVR return. Our dates are flexible, but Sept 11-14 range to leave, and Oct 3-5 to return. We have had zero luck with any point redemption, so looks like we will have to pay. We are fairly flexible on flights, ie, if its cheaper to fly into Milan and take a train, we are completely willing. Lowest I can find for this multi city on ITA is about 1300 - is that the best we will be able to do? And should we book now, or closer? Thanks.

If you goal is simply the lowest fare then you're best off finding a good travel agent or becoming very familiar with Kayak/ITA/GoogleFlights as those can really help you out.

What I did was get as close as possible on miles and take a LCC into VCE, we ended doing EasyJet from FCO, but check those routes, the price of the ticket should not be to high r/t, so check to where EasyJet flies to VCE from and work backwards.

Welcome to FT!

How do fares from SEA compare, either with a return to SEA, or a return to YVR?

Surprisingly, YVR is actually cheaper, esp when factoring in travel/hotel/parking costs. This has not generally been the case! We flew to France in 2010, and the ticket was half the price of leaving from YVR.

That seems worth checking - what is LCC? We have used Easy Jet and Ryan Air before, since we just have carry on should be ok.

LCC = Low Cost Carrier = Ryanair = Easy Jet = Vueling = many others

if you are considering a LCC

make sure your carry ons will fit their rather strict guidelines, and that you'll have access to online check in etc - otherwise the fees may eat up any savings.

Happy to take a stab at it. Points balances?

thanks, that would be great. We have 86,000 in American Airlines, and are expecting about 70,000 in Aeroplan (for sign up bonuses), but those probably won't show up until too late to book. American seems to have very limited seats.

I can't see any really good ways to use your miles. However, If you have USAirways accounts, you could take advantage of their buy and share miles promos, and the fact that they are not currently charging surcharges on BA flights, to buy the miles for your tickets. At $1220 for purchased miles (70K) and $550 for shared miles (50K), you would wind up paying close to $2000 total for crazy routings. And not earn miles. So never mind.
