First time optimizing a reward flight
Hi,
I'm new to this, and would like some guidance. Here are the details of my desired flight, as well as the points I own:
---
Departure city: Montreal, but Ottawa and Burlington (VT) are possible
Leave: Some time between Aug 21-24, 2014, ideally Aug 22
Arrival city: San Francisco or Reno
Return: Some time on or after Sept 1 2014, as close to Sept 1 as possible
Class: any
Stops: any
Passengers: 1 adult
Amex Membership Rewards: 85k
Aeroplan: 19k
---
I looked on Air Canada, Delta, and US Airways already. Is there anything better than what I can get from Delta (25k points + $65)? Are there any airlines/tricks I should be looking into as well?
Thanks!

There's solid availability on United/AC, but the surcharges are heftier. For example, 8/22 YUL-SFO, 9/3 SFO-YUL for 25K Aeroplan + $163. I did, however, see 8/20 BTV-SFO, 9/1 SFO-BTV for 25K Aeroplan + $28. Other thought is to see how much Singapore charges for the YUL-SFO surcharges. I'm not sure what they collect on that kind of route. May have to call to find out.
