Not sure which part you are referring to, but here is some info:

If you are curious about the foreign vs domestic part, see bullet #1:
1. The Premier qualifying dollar (PQD) requirement only applies to members whose primary MileagePlus account address is in the 50 United States or the District of Columbia. Those who use military or diplomatic addresses (APO, DPO or FPO) are exempt from the PQD requirement.

Incidentally, I stopped using Air New Zealands mileage point program a few years back when it switched from mileage points to $$ credits. The transition was not transparent or equitable, and how ANZ calculated gold/elite status became very cloudy, seemingly a moving target. Most certainly the bar was raised making it harder to gain status.

Or to drive away the loyal, but less profitable customers? My recommendation to the OP is to look at the expected ticket price, and see what status they could earn on each airline. The challenge for the OP is that LHR has a lot of taxes that are not included in the $ calculations for either UA or DL.
I would probably fly AA, because the 8 SWU are good on any fare class:

UA only gives 6 GPU & only work on the mid or high priced fare classes:
