FT do - MAA - this Saturday 8/29

Any FTers in Madras - feel free to join us for some Korean food (and drinks) at "In Seoul" on TTK Road, 7 pm on this saturday.

In Seoul, 530 TTK Road, Alwarpet, Madras.

To place it - its just a few doors down from Benjarong (a rather well known Thai restaurant) as you drive towards TTK Road. It is in a building with a "Trinethra Supermarket" on the ground floor - and you can't miss it, the parking lot will be full of Hyundai cars. The running joke is that this restaurant is the Hyundai office canteen in MAA.

PM any of us for cellphone # or other contact info if you need it.

Acco choices if you fly in - either book a hotel (plenty nearby - the Park Sheraton, GRT Grand, Raintree are quite close by and quite good), or might try this serviced apartment near the restaurant (5..10 minutes away) @ around INR 1000 ++ [Its pretty decent, flatscreen TV, gym, free wifi etc]. Haven't personally tried it but I saw another serviced apartment operated by the same outfit and it looked reasonable.

serviced apt location -

Wish I could make this one, but next time I am in town I will make note of it. Korean food in Chennai - I knew it existed, wonder how good it is, ditto Thai (I usually stick to more local things since I'm deprived of it elsewhere).

Hell, MAA's changed a lot.

In Seoul is run by a Korean, the waiters are all Koreans too. Hyundai / Samsung etc employees keep coming there.

Benjarong is reasonably authentic Thai

Then Azulia in the GRT Grand / T Nagar is really good Mediterranean (lebanese, moroccan etc). Chef Chahine is lebanese, and takes a personal interest in ensuring that you get yourself a good meal. He'll sit around with you customizing your order, if you're knowledgeable about moroccan food.

There's Cornucopia on Cenotaph Road - pretty good continental cuisine, simple dishes and beautifully prepared. Be prepared for bright yellow painted walls hung with Van Gogh prints.

etc etc.

Actually, In Seoul is indeed run by a Korean chap but the waiters are not Koreans, they are from the NE as far as I can tell. The food is quite authentic (I am a huge Korean food fan) and service is great.

Dahlia, a Japanese restaurant hidden away on Nungambakkam High Road, is also reasonably authentic as it is owned by a Japanese man who has been here forever. You'll see alot of Japanese customers there.

Benjarong I personally do not care for and I have heard good things about the Chef at Azulia.

Anyway, lookign forward to Sat!

Oh, should we try to get a small private room with traditional seating?

Oh no, I know Chennai has changed, I just have not explored the foreign food since I am too busy stuffing my face at my aunts or at Saravana Bhavan or the like. Mom's from Trichy and Pops is from Madurai (we'll keep it simple for the non-Tamils).

My cousins are not the most knowledgeable and I will be sure to pass this information onto them asap. The next time I spend an extended time in Tamil Nadu (don't know when) I am sure I will have a craving for something foreign and go for it.
