A day in Lucknow

I am flying to Lucknow in late July and will travel around U.P. for about two weeks, mostly on business. Because of a change in my departing flight, I now have an extra day in Lucknow at the end of my visit. Does anyone have any suggestions for things to do and see around Lucknow?

History from the 1857 mutiny, I guess. Lucknow is not the cleanest or best kept city around.. but its better than the rest of UP.

And the food is going to be good - especially the biryani. Though having lived in Hyderabad for over 15 years I prefer the Hyderabadi variant.

There's enough food and water borne diseases this close to the rainy season in north india, that'll take care of your weight problem.

Be careful, especially with the water - and eat whatever food steaming hot and fresh .. far less risk of germs that way.

If you are looking for reading "The Siege of Krishnapur" - J G Farell was based on the siege of Lucknow.
