I am booking for 4 people, our preferred rate would be $125 USD or less per room per night. Any advice would be appreciated, we feel like we are flying blind.

In any case, please don't rely on what is written by a stranger on Trip Advisor. In theory (although I hope this would not happen) the competition across the street could write horrific stories about that place under an assumed identity in order to push business their way.
Edit: Let me add a little something to this. I do read all the reviews and give them consideration, but I don't take them as gospel. I am more apt to pay closer attention to the more recent ones.

When Hindi/Urdu-speaking North Indians go to South India, the default language of communication is generally English. It's in South India where finding English-speakers has been and continues to be easiest. (South Indians don't generally communicate in Hindi but in their own regional languages.)
Personally I don't use Hindi/Urdu in South India. It's often more appropriate to say hello in English than to use Hindi with a good number of people in South India. (In prior years there was quite the tension related to the language issue especially as South Indian concerns about Hindi-domination became a political issue.)

Just found out I'm going to Bangalore in December, taking a few weeks after for vacation. Is it impossible to find NYE accommodation for Goa at this point? Not finding much if anything on any of the travel sites.

BTW, I want to thank everyone for their help here, particularly GUWonder and Yaatri for an earlier PM. Your help and wisdom is very much appreciated and hopefully will help make my upcoming trip much more pleasant. Thanks.
