Cheaper way to send Excess Baggages

I am planning a trip from Coimbatore (india) to San Francisco (USA) in June. I am moving back to USA and I have a lot of Excess baggage to carry with me. I am not sure how much I could carry with me as excess baggage. My friends suggest that I should use a commercial courier service to send my extra baggages. Would that be cheaper? Anyone have experience with this kind of a situation?

The topic is not really related to SQ. I am moving the thread to the India forum.

Approach a moving company to arrange everything. Airfreight or unaccompanied baggage requires quite a bit of paperwork on both ends, especially when you want to clear customs stateside. You will quickly realise the excess baggage fees are peanuts in comparison

I practically moved all my family's belongings (except furniture) on board LH (F) to the USA from India some years ago.

Unfortunately, they didn't wish to stay there and moved back, so haven't had the opportunity to move back everything so far!

call the airline & ask them how much you can carry & how much it would cost....then compare the rate with a courier service....i have a feeling the courier company might be cheaper but moving it with the airline will be more convenient....
