Yep, thats how it works. Everyone needs to get off at BOM because they need to check if anyone left things behind, and sometimes the 777 gets swapped in BOM for operational reasons. Examples of that can be found here:

ZRH-BOM on LX connecting to AI BOM-GOI

Am arriving on LX in BOM at 2230
Connecting next day at 1325 on AI to GOI

What would be your recommendation for accommodations that night?

Would transit hotel at BOM be a better option?

Finally - I assume that I won't have sufficient time to head into city in the morning to blitz a few spots before needing to be back at BOM for AI GOI flight?

Thanks !

how much are you looking to spend????

you definitely won't have enough time to go into the city....traffic will be a nightmare during morning hours....

Why not take one of flights departing early to Goa around 5 am in the next morning? Immigration formalities will take about an hour or so.. wait for couple of more hours in a lounge and try fly out of BOM in the next possible opportunity. My two cents.

The ITC Maratha, Hilton, Hyatt Regency, JW Marriott and The Lalit are all good options. Most of them will offer free airport transfers as well.

I'd pick these over the transit hotel since restaurant options + overall ambience will be better.

Edit : If you're on a budget the Courtyard Marriott is also a great choice.

Sorry if this question has been asked before -- I am trying to book on two separate tickets the following.
- Bangalore to Mumbai (economy)
- Mumbai-Zurich-Miami (business, award tickets)

I am looking at booking on either Indigo or Jet Airways for the BLR-BOM segment.
Indigo is cheaper by about Rs.800 per ticket, and there are three of us.

In terms of connecting (collecting bags, check-in again with SWISS, etc.) what is the difference? From what I have read, Indigo operates out of Terminal 1B while Jet operates out of Terminal 2 (same as SWISS and other international airlines). How easy or difficult is it to collect bags from Indigo in T1B and check in at T2, versus collecting from Jet Airways in T2 and checking in with SWISS in T2? How much more time and effort is involved?

Thanks in advance.

Go for Jet, spend the 2400Rs, well worth it.

+1 Absolutely, now with Inter Terminal Bus transfer gone - It would be messy to load/unload all the luggage in taxi and transfer plus grab some UA or whatever miles on 9W too with some decent free food possibly dinner with ur timings!!

Transit times Domestic to International

Coming in on 9W from Pune (PNQ) to BOM and THRILLED to hear that it comes into the new terminal 2! Years of the bus transfer have aged me ;).

That said, with only carry on baggage, do I need to go thru emmigration and re-enter the departures check-in area for my flight on United? Or is there a transit/transfer area within Terminal 2 to use if I have an ongoing electronic boarding pass? Bottom line question I guess is what is the minimum time now needed for this domestic to international connection? If it helps, I am traveling on 2 PNR's and am in business class on ANA and no status on 9W. Thanks!

Electronic BPs count nothing in India, you need some paper the people can stamp multiple times :)

Understand your point, but I guess my questions still hold on whether you have to go thru emmigration and re-enter departure area, if there is a transfer/transit provision, and what is reasonable time to transfer dom->int'l? Having a hard copy confirmation seems to work in most international airports. Thanks.

For DI connections at BOM, you pass through the departure checkin area regardless of whether your bag is checked through or not. This is because there are *no* transfer desks, so pax who need to pick up their onward boarding pass need to stop at checkin anyway.

90-120 min should be fine. Indian airports do not allow any electronic boarding passes, so prior checkin would be pointless unless you have the option to print a physical BP on paper.

Thanks everyone for their replies. So it looks a 2:15 connection is reasonable and I should expect to go to the check in area for ANA for BP's and then security/immigration processes. Much appreciated!

Hi read through the posts but did not find an answer to this.
My mom is flying alone from Newark to Delhi on AI 144. I am seeing now that this lands in Mumbai (BOM) with a 1:20 min layover. I presume then that she can stay on the plane? Or does she have to clear customs etc.?

Tx
