What will I need to do at Mumbai airport to reach the connecting flight. Both flights will be from Terminal 2 after the recent change made by air India.

Will I get my luggage directly in Delhi? It's a 2.30hrs layover time, will it reach Delhi in the flight that I take from Mumbai?

It really depends what particular flight(s) you are on. If you are arriving on AI144 and continuing on A310 or 314, you will be on an so called international/domestic flight, where you just change aircraft in BOM and go thru immigration in DEL and see your luggage there. If its on AI888 you are on a pure domestic, ie clear customs in BOM, collect your luggage and hand it over to AI again to collect it in DEL.

Thanks, Yes I will be arriving on AI144 and continuing on A314. Is it easy to navigate through the mumbai airport to reach where I need to depart from A314? I have 2:30 hrs, will that be sufficient?

Need help

I am booked on AI flight from Del to BOM reaching at 10:10 AM, now landing at t2. Have a connection on Spicejet 12:00. No check in luggage, is it doable. If yes what would be faster coach or grabbing a taxi?

deovrat Oct 20, 2015 9:59 pm

Yes quite doable.
I'd catch a taxi for peace of mind.

Absolutely no problem. You will deplane, go thru transfer security, then one level up and end up in the international concourse.

Hi,

This thread is a gift. Please allow me to ask for some advice.

We'll (2 pax, hand luggage, WT+) arrive:
BA 139 - LHR > BOM - Oct 29 - 12:15AM

and are planning to connect to
JetAirways 256 - BOM > CMB - Oct 29 - 02:30AM

From what I could find out, our BA and JetAirways flight will arrive/depart at Terminal 2.

My questions:
- Given 2 pax and no checked bags, do you see a fair chance that we make the connection?
- When connecting within T2, is there an additional SecurityScreening / Emigration Check / anything we have to plan more time for?

Thanks for your help!

CMB departs from the international section, so this is a cakewalk. When deplaning, don't follow the general scrum to immigration, but instead look carefully for the transfer/transit desk(s). There you can check in for your 9W flight, go thru transit security just behind and you are in the departure level for your CMB flight. Takes 20 mins at most. You can checkin for the 9W flight about 24h in advance, but the self printed boarding passes need to be endorsed at the transit desk anyway. And they will be useful to convince any inquiring BA staff in LHR.

IME it can take up-to 30 minutes, just to reach the transfer-desk, if you need to be bused from the aircraft to the terminal. Even with an airbridge, if you're near the back of the incoming-plane, it can take quite a while for Economy-passengers to retrieve their carry-on bags & get off the aircraft & walk to the international-transfer-area.

Then the queue for the transfer-desk, Jet Airways & Air India generally have the longest line-ups, understandable as they're the busiest airlines for transfers.

Transfer-security can be swift, or very slow depending on staffing & the number of people passing-through, note that there are separate lines for men & women. I've known the security-check at BOM to take up to 45-minutes on a bad day. Not criticising, just saying.

But no, a transfer-time of 2 hrs 15 minutes should still be fine overall IME.

If there's a really long line at security and you're cutting it close, you can always ask a Jet agent to escort you to the front, they usually are pretty helpful.

BA flights dock directly at the terminal and you walk 50m to the transit desk.

Arriving from CMB on a 9W 737 is a different matter, but the question was not on that. @:-):o

Question about Niranta transit hotel

I will be flying out of BOM on Jan 30, 2016 at 6.50 am on TK to IST.

Since I will be staying in Pune for the trip, I plan to travel to BOM evening of 29th and stay at the Niranta transit hotel. Traveling with the wife and our 3-yr old daughter - so don't really want to make the drive all night after midnight from Pune.

My question is whether or not it is feasible to go out of the room - check -in, drop off the bags - all about 3 hrs prior to the flight- and then come back to the room for another hour/our and a half before checking out and proceeding to security and boarding. Or should I rather check out and then do the flight check-in / luggage drop off etc?

thanks in advance.

The Niranta is inside the departure area and not reachable if you haven't checked in and gone past security. It is also not available to arriving pax, its meant for transiting pax.

Leaving the terminal after check-in is not allowed by the CISF.

I think you better stay in one of the hotels right opposite the BOM T2 terminal.

I think you misunderstood....
I want to stay in the hotel the night before my departing flight. Get out of the room - check in for the flight / drop off luggage and go back into the hotel room until it is time to complete remaining formalities before boarding. Is that feasible? I do not intend to exit the terminal.

oliver2002 Oct 29, 2015 7:51 am

I would check with the Niranta people. The problem is the CISF: they are not allowed to allow passengers into the terminal 3-4h in advance. How Niranta solves that particular logistic issue would be interesting to know.
