The Swissotel is located in a mall called City Centre 2 which has a lot of restaurants, movie theatre and shops. Maybe cheaper to hang out there than the hotel. Or split your time between the two. Many cabs dont know swissotel so just say City centre 2 rajarhat. there is another city centre which is 30-45 mins away in salt lake so make sure you specify city centre 2. It should take roughly 10 mins by cab.

At the intl terminal they have opened a new resturant before checkin called PORT could spend your time there too but guess you will be bored as its pretty basic.

Another mall 20-25 mins away is Mani Square.

Further information for anyone else looking for a similar option: The 6th floor lounge at the Swissotel opened at 6:00 pm (shortly after I arrived). I spent the majority of the time there. Fine view of the sunset, cold Kingfishers and great prawn appetizer. 30 minutes of wi-fi was 300 INR. The staff got the code and bill from the desk downstairs for me.

I had dinner at the restaurant next door. The food and service here were impeccable as well.

I also wandered around the mall for a few minutes, but, after all, it's just another mall. There are a few dining options here (mostly fast food).

I would have taken the taxi driver's number to call him, but my mobile was missing after the flight from Guahati to Kolkata. Didn't realize it until I got in the terminal. So no more Indian mobile for me.

In case anyone was wondering, the phone was found. Working on retrieving it now: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/airli...-retrieve.html
