Transiting India twice?
I'm planning a trip to India and the Maldives. It would involve 2 nights in DEL on the way to MLE and 1 night in BOM on the way home. But is there a sensible visa option for this?
A tourist visa has a rule about returning only after 2 months, and even if it helped I'm not sure we'd have a chance to get our re-entry okay'd at the MLE embassy.
A transit visa only appears to be valid for 15 days from issue. Is this ever extended. And is it valid for two entries?
It seems quite normal that someone transiting India would do so again on their return leg ... but not obviously allowed for in the visa system.
Thanks!

[Please move this post to a more appropriate thread if one exists.]
I hold a UK passport and am flying from the UK via FRA and BOM to CMB in a week's time. Because of the flight timing I decided to stay 1.5 days in Mumbai on the way out and applied for a transit visa. On the way back I'm also transiting in BOM but with a three-hour layover and should not need a visa.
I applied for a transit visa via VFS Global which handles India visa applications in the UK and received back a double entry transit visa valid for 3 months. This is contrary to what the VFS Global's website states: "The visa will ordinarily be valid for a single/double journey and for entry within 15 days of date of issue." A similar statement is found on CKGS's website in the US: "The validity of an India Transit Visa will be for 15 days from the date of issue. It can be a single entry or a double entry depending on the requirement of the applicant. A Transit Visa is not extendable."
It's reassuring to know I won't be stranded at the airport in Mumbai if I misconnect on the way home for whatever reason but I wonder if 'entry within 15 days of date of issue' only applies to the first date of entry. The visa itself does not mention anything about '15 days'. It is possible that they gave me a double entry visa because I sent my itinerary which showed I would be flying back via BOM.
