Jet Konnect
What's this new Jet Konnect service that Jet Airways is offering in India? Any ideas? I heard from a source that 9W has given up / is giving up most of its LR and ER aircraft, and will eventually run a low-cost service only (comprising Jet Konnect and Jetlite - though I don't know what they're going to do with 2 brands of LCCs !), and that the 9W full service (Jet Airways) will be virtually extinct, except maybe for ex-BOM and ex-DEL routes.
Also, because of this, is there any reason to be worried about my JP miles? |
Where did you hear 9W full service could become extinct? I think that would be terrible. As far as I can tell, Jet Konnect may be a temporary venture until the economy picks itself up again.
|
Oh dear. If there is any truth to this, I had better start burning some of those JP miles. Anyone have a confirmation on this statement?
|
My information is from a close relative who works with 9W, and I heard of this last Friday - so if its true, then its probably inside info that's not yet been made public. If it isn't true...well...I really don't know what to do, except to apologise for taking up your time. But then, a little info helps, right ! :D

This kind of thing getting outed in FT will probably cause your relative to get fired .. airline staff have been known to monitor FT before. I'd say delete this thread soon - or your relative aint going to be too happy with you.

I would not worry about Jet becoming a low cost carrier.
This was the announcement for starting JetKonnect: http://www.jetairways.com/Cultures/e...ys_Konnect.htm and this is one from a few days ago adding some more routes: http://www.jetairways.com/Cultures/e...ys_Konnect.htm The routes covered by JetKonnect are short sectors where there is hardly any premium demand and service is not required on sub 1 hr flights. It makes sense to only have full service on sectors serving large metro cities where there is demand for both business class and full service. BTW, Kingfisher is going along a similar route by introducing Kingfisher Red onto many smaller secondary sectors and restricting full service to between Metrocities. |
Doesn't look like anything bad is about to happen to Jet's full service. :) What is puzzling though: why two low cost subsidiaries? Maybe they are thinking of retiring the JetLite brand which has accumulated bad reputation. This is juts speculation, I have no hard info.

It's got something to do with the ongoing litigation between Jet Airways and the former owners of Air Sahara. |
Guess what?
Although I never thought so, aniruddh77 is quite on the ball about this matter! Jet is now "nickel and diming" us by starting these JetKonnect (expletive deleted) services, with an all-economy config...it appears they have more and more aircraft available to fly these routes! (note that even elites *do not* get lounge access on these stupid "Konnect" flights - so what is the point??) Look at AMD - now down to *only* one biz-config'ed flight per day, out of 4 flights (of course, these have been cut down to 4 (BOM-AMD-BOM) from an earlier 5-6 or more - cut to other cities as well) I seriously fear the fate of Jet's premium service on the domestic front...I for one am seriously considering supporting AI/IC or IT! () This is just a warning - I think we are seeing that they (Jet) do not care about our domestic traffic any longer - a *big* mistake!

I hope that they keep a 10 foot pole's distance when dealing with their international services. And good call to aniruddh77; I was yet another skeptic (albeit a worried one).
Although I must add that this cutting of domestic J services certainly cannot be good for revenues. After all, on the last domestic 9W flight I was on, 1 J ticket = 8 Y tickets in terms of revenue... With IT trying to expand its Kingfisher First service, Jet may be in for some trouble... |

I have to admit that when JetKonnect started about two months, i thought it was a good idea, short simple flights feeding the metro cities becoming all y low cost because the flight time was less than an hour but....
...from starting with two aircraft and about 18 routes, it has morphed into well over 100 routes and more aircraft being converted, now that is worrying!!! it shocking that elites get no benefits on the ground on these JetKonnect flights, thats like sticking your finger up at your most loyal fliers. |
I hope they don't change any of their regular scheduled services into JetKonnect flights. I've booked a J international routing with a domestic connection in J, and I will raise hell for them if they mess around with my flight. :D
