Standby rules on 9W

I am arriving into DEL in a couple of weeks on AA 292 from ORD, the flight gets in at 8:35 pm. My flight into Bombay is not until the next morning at 6:50 am on 9W 332. I am planning to get a hotel in Delhi for the night and possibly fly out on a later flight the next day, is anyone aware of the standby rules for 9W?

Well, depending on the booking class of your ticket you'd have to pay a change fee. You may also have to pay a fare difference if the class you're booked on is not available on the flight you choose.

Why dont you just call 9W and get your ticket changed to a later flight, rather than standing by and trying to work it out at the airport?

Right - why try to do this in unfamiliar territory?

Is this an AA ticket? If so, then you might not get any AA miles for other flights - you may wish to check the code-shares/flights applicable for AA miles.

You can also call Jet, as hserus suggested, and see what they say.

If you're flying in J, then you might have a problem with availability, as the DEL-BOM sector is usually quite full, except for the middle of the day.

I checked with 9W, but they say they can't change the ticket since it is issued by AA. AA wants to charge me $250 for the change although the flights later in the day are the same fare as the 6:50 am flight.

Well then, you just have to set an alarm and wake up early.

Seriously though, you still haven't specified which class of travel you are flying in...

I would fly the segments to DEL and then call Jet's DEL reservations number: +91 (0)11/3989-3333.

I was booked in Y all the way to Bombay, but used my eVIP to upgrade to J for the ORD-DEL segement, am in Y for DEL-BOM. Will call Delhi reservations once I get there.

Call me a cynic... but I think prioritisation also depends on whether you look like a rich westerner.

I know it's a bit of an out-of-bounds comment, but having been waved over to the Premier check-in desk umpteen times based solely on the fact that I'm European, I wouldn't be surprised if the standby list is prone to this as well.
