maybe, just maybe, this is a way to donate inr 1 lac each to ensure air india dies....maybe all the employees want to see it die a clean death....i mean i would donate inr 1 lac if someone would guarantee me that would be the end of air india....

actually, who are we kidding????air india will continue to drain the tax payer dry for all of eternity & will never die....

Well, employee owned airlines have been there before. United 1993-2001 is a prime example. UAL deferred wage payments by issuing the employees stock instead. When the scheme ran out in the late 90s, the trouble began.

Hopefully India will wise up like some African countries and let AI die.

Both pilot unions have advised their members not to take part in the employee buyout: https://economictimes.indiatimes.com...w/79578483.cms

The new owners will celebrate the buy-out at the newly reopened wonderful Centaur Hotel Delhi.

Which countries would that be? SAA was just lifted from the ashes.. again. All major African countries have their own airlines?

🤦‍♂️🤐

90,000 crore debt. 14,000 employees putting out 1 lakh each would be 140 crore. I don't think the math works...

Looks like the deadline has just passed and only Tatas & AI employees + Interups put in bids.

For the Tata's it will be a massive conflict of interest juggling 2 full service carriers. I can't imagine SQ will be pleased about this or be keen to merge UK with AI. So it will be interesting to see the repercussions of this harakiri mission that the Tatas seem to be on.

Hard to take the Interups & AI bid seriously since I think only 200 or so AI employees have signed up for it. Among a million other reasons including AI not being able to come up with the capital to get 51% stake. Still strange things have happened with the Jalans & Kalrock Group and 9W.

Maybe we should start a betting pool on the outcome! :D

Tatas have already indicated that they won't operate two competing full service carriers if they win the bid, the airlines will be merged.

“Our group chairman has clearly stated that the airline businesses have to be consolidated and there cannot be multiple airlines,” said one of the persons cited above. “Air India being a full-service carrier, it is only sensible that the business come under Vistara, which is a full-service carrier too. We are hopeful that our partner will be willing to participate in future plans that include Air India.”

I'm not sure where you see that, the link clearly states both AI and UK are full service carriers, and only those two would be merged. No official bid has been given either, that congress on Dec 28
