It is going to be interesting to see how in a culturally senstive country like india whether colored bins for shoes are going to be sufficient to keep them separated.

What a stupid scam in the name of "security".

Why is it that the Indian government repeatedly tries to follow the advice and practices of US DHS and the TSA? US DHS and TSA are not something worth replicating even as government workfare.

This change in security check practice is being considered by BCAS to shorten serpentine queues at frisking counters as well as enhance the quality of checking.
i guess i'll have to start showing up at the airport a couple of hours earlier....there is no way in hell this will shorten anything....

Indeed this will just slow down things a lot relative to what has been standard ar Indian airports for years now.

The more things the screeners look for/at, the more they will miss. The chances for an improvement in quality of screening are pretty negligible. The chances for slowing down screening is not negligible -- it's a certainty that this will slow down things.

What a terrible idea. The current system is far superior.

Terrible idea, especially in India. Everytime I think of this I remember the mile long serpentine queues at LHR with the place resembling a disaster zone with people opening jackets, hats, shoes, belts and ... putting them on again.

What next - open the metal bolts on jeans too?

eeks... Given the condition of Pavements / Pedestrian areas here, it will be gross if the bins gets mixed.

I used to tell the foreigners in the Security screening queue, not to take of the shoes / belt etc and they can keep their dignity also. Not any more.....

The secutity process itself is just fine, in my opinion. We could do with a doubling (or quadrupling even) of the number of x-ray machines and other equipment. And a massive common sense injection into the brains of so many supposedly seasoned travellers who still approach the check point as if they're flying for the first time (never mind the fat wad of passports they've stapled together and are waving around to show off).

What will be really, really good will be the elimination of those retarded departure and arrival cards, that ask even more retarded questions. At least for citizens.

Apparently MAA immigration have decided to do away with them soon. If true, hopefully the rest of the country will follow, because even these things, turns out, are not implemented uniformly across the country.
