Connect, help!!!!

Hi!

I've just spent the last twenty minutes on Google trying to find an answer to my question, but I couldn't!

I'm flying from Singapore to Madras, Madras to Bengaluru on Jet Airways. I've got a five hour layover in Madras before my next flight to Bengaluru. (Madras and Bengaluru are two Indian cities, lol)

Anyway, I'm not too confident of the Indian baggage handlers'... will they really know that my bags need to be transferred to the other flight?

Will my baggage have a special tag (like MAA --> BLR instead of just MAA)?

THANKS

Welcome to FlyerTalk!

Your baggage tag should list all legs and especially the final destination..

If not, you should double check the details with your airline..

Are both your legs listed on the same PNR number?

If yes, then you will be handed your MAA-BLR boarding pass as well when you check-in for your SIN-MAA flight and your bags will be through checked-in to BLR.

I'm not quite sure if Jet will do this for seperate PNR numbers but I'm sure the senior members here will be able to help you out.

They've refused to check through on multiple PNRs in the past for me, and considering the 5 hour connection, I doubt they'd do it this time either.

Just saying, Indian baggage handlers are no different than the baggage handlers in any other country - they send the bag where the tag says to send the bag.

In India, just like most other countries, you need to clear the customs at your first port of entry. hence, if you are flying SIN-MAA, you will anyways need to collect your bags and pass them through customs.

The international and domestic terminals are less than 5 minutes walk from each other in Madras, so as you need to get your bags and pass through customs anyway, I'd just wheel them across to the domestic terminal in a luggage cart (or check into a hotel and fly the next day depending on what my arrival from SIN looks like)

Madras isn't as fancy as Changi but its baggage handling, checkin etc all work just fine.

Is this due to customs where you're required to pick up your luggage, conduct the customs due diligence and recheck your bags?

since you are on the same airline your bags will be tagged to blr when you check them in at sin....you will have to collect your bags when you land in maa & then drop them off at the jet airways domestic counter for the next leg of your journey....

OP has to recheck bags only once, at MAA after clearing the customs, because MAA is the point of entry into India

Once in India.. no need to grab the bags at a connection and recheck them? Sort of standard like NA?..

Exactly. Unless the two airlines are ticketed separately and don't talk to the others (specially the low cost ones such as Spicejet, since these operate on a standalone basis)

Hello. Okay, from what I understand, I will basically arrive in Madras, take my bags as if I was disembarking at Madras and then I'll have to go over to the domestic terminal and check in for my BLR flight?
