Jet Privilege - Is it really a rewarding programme?

Of late, I have had a lot of complaints with JP.

- A miles upgrade request I put in 3 months in advance for BOM-LHR never came through. Frequent calls to the call centre didn't help, they refuse to confirm upgrades until the last minute. That is their system! Ridiculous.

- Lounge access for Elite tiers: in BOM, the only lounge you're allowed access to as an elite tier is before security check, which kind of defeats the purpose on a domestic flight. Further, the check in agent did not tell me this and I realised only after clearing security.

- Customer Service: The missing miles feature refused to work for me, even 5 days after I took a flight and my miles were not recorded. I emailed JP and received no response for 8 days. I emailed them again complaining about the lack of response and I got a rather cocky reply five days later telling me its not their fault the miles were not recorded - I had made changes to my itinerary. The miles were ultimately recorded after this. No apologies for the delay in reply or anything.

These are the main complaints I have. The on board product is good, no doubt. But it simply doesn't make sense accumulating miles when there's no way you can use them!

Rant over :P

there are tricks to use miles....just putting in a request along with a couple of calls is not enough....i have many million jp miles & i use them all the time to get tickets for my wife....if i remember correctly, i don't think i have paid for a single revenue ticket for the wife for the last 3-4 years....

the best way to do this is to book your tickets with a good travel agent....if they are on good terms with the airline then they will push your upgrade or revenue ticket through....i have lost count of the number of tickets & upgrades i have got this way & i was only refused once when i tried booking at the last minute & the flight was completely full....

let me know if you need contact details of a good ta & i'll pm it to you....

i can't comment on international since i have not taken an international flight for mumbai in a few years now....but the domestic lounge is after clearing security....

you can actually update your miles online....if they haven't posted in 72 hours then just use the 'missing miles' link on the website....

I am based in the UK so I prefer booking online because 9W gives you 46kgs baggage allowance if its booked online with the journey starting in LHR. My most frequent route is LHR-BOM-BLR-BOM-LHR, so a travel agent doesn't really make sense! But thank you :)

I'm talking about domestic only. When I went to the Clipper Lounge, the agent looked at my lounge invitation and said the I'm entitled to use only the reserved lounge, that's before security? :S I was flying economy..

That's what I meant by the missing miles feature. This was not working for me. It kept saying your miles cannot be processed, even more than 72 hours after the flight.

I'm thinking of using my miles for an LHR-NYC award ticket. I will get in touch with you if I need help with that! :) it is a great airline on board, but on the ground, it can be a royal piss off at times!

To the OP,

I am surprised by your experience.. I travel mostly intl but credit to JP and dont have much problems.. sometimes when the miles dont credit, I scan them the ticket and BP copy and I see the miles credited within 1 week..
For flights on JP metal, the online missing miles link has worked the only 1 time I needed to use it ( as others credited automatically)..

JP is a very decent program and if they imporve their award seats availability then it can easily become a great program..

Does 9W have FS on its awards?

I have to agree with the OP - 9W is excellent on board but a complete disaster on the ground. I have contacts with high up people in the company and they still continually fail to deliver on JP award seats.
I took a total of 1.5 million miles among our family of 4 and have been working over the last 3 years to bring that down to a manageable 300k now, and have decided its not worth the hassle - FFP's are supposed to increase loyalty and in some cases make up for mediocre products (AA, BA are good examples - BA being more balances with good product and good program, AA not so good product, excellent program)... today honestly I have ditched 9W because of JP and I know many others who have done the same...

i don't think they are anywhere close to being a complete disaster on the ground....in fact, i feel they are extremely good on the ground as well....their ground staff & customer service is fantastic....

but i do agree that they desperately need to do something regarding award availability....even i know people high up with jet & i have never had a problem getting reward tickets....over the years i have spent over a million miles & still have about 2 million left....but ideally i should not be getting in touch with my contacts when i need a reward ticket....the awards should be available to everyone....if jet has an empty seat at the end of the day then they should let someone redeem their miles to get it....it should be as simple as that....

This questionnaire isn't going to get you far. Instead of asking people to rate it (the program will probably get "poor" across the board), you'd be better off asking for concrete suggestions. I'm sure JP members here have plenty :)

Also, while you seem to understand how to use Google Docs, you're clearly new at BBs. If you want to respond to everyone, you should either not quote anyone - people will get the idea, or you should combine all the quotes into 1 post. Posting the same response 5 times just isn't done.

Now, with all this avios confusion with BA, what would you say the balance is?
