You are obviously in the wrong kitchen!

And P.S.: I have a strong feeling that lallyr, like me, is more of a parantha man, as opposed to a dosa babu! :p

I disagree with your statement. The reason you provided precisely explains why AI is a disgrace to society. It is a public sector company and is financially supported by the government. Why should the government subsidize good food for rich people (i.e. those who can afford to fly)?

If AI were a self sufficient airline on the other hand, I wouldn't have any problem with their catering choices.

I am definitely more of a dosa dude than a parantha person. So I can't complain too much about the dosas. :D

Guilty conscience indeed.

I'm running out of positive things to say about AI :(. In fact, I'm running out of positive things to say period.

Kingfisher is a joke. No need to go into detail....
Jet Airways is also quickly becoming a joke as well. Useless rewards program, reliability is getting worse, they're prostituting out pretty much everything (Nokia Lumia livery made me want to puke). Safety issues - poor safety culture, maintenance incompetence going on, etc. And they are still losing cash.
Air India is also a joke. Reliability is improving, but still only better than Kingfisher. Losing tons of money. Incompetence everywhere. I'm working on an tomorrow morning's AeroBlogger post right now, which discusses serious safety lapses that were there leading up to the Mangalore crash (which were thankfully rectified since). The only positive things I have to say about them anymore are either government favoritism (midnight flights from BOM T2 most notably) and the food.
I must say, the food is pretty incredible though. They've managed to differentiate their product in a way that nobody else has been able to do successfully. I'm thankful I don't fly more often, or the hours I spend working out every day would be a waste of time. The food is that good.
However, AI is still very much a joke. Better than the competition in my opinion, but a joke.

The DGCA is full of incompetence. If they weren't backed by one of the most powerful governments, they would have been blacklisted by the USA and EU long ago. They never cease to amaze.

And don't get me talking about the aviation ministry... Serious problems there too.

So guilty conscience indeed. Nothing positive left to say :(

The dosas aren't exactly being subsidized by the government. If Air India's legacy costs aren't taken into account, AI is more profitable than both 9W and IT. That means that the government is truly subsidizing the legacy costs (high staff payroll mostly), not the dosas...

Edit: FWIW, I am also a parantha person, compared to dosas. I haven't been served any paranthas on AI sadly, so that's why I didn't use it as the example.

Nah. I've been the only one flying the flag of AI for a long time now, and I haven't regretted it once yet. One day, everyone else will realize who was right the whole time. One day ;)

Nothing to hope for. And nothing to overcome for that matter ;).

AI is already the best of a set of bad options. If anyone should be singing Hum Honge Kamyaab, it's Mallya. But I don't want to hear any sort of song come out of the horrible voice he has...

I too think AI has a great product. I'd definitely fly it more often if it were a member of one of the three major alliances.
