i dont know mate...i dont like the Premier herringbone config or whatever it is called...granted - i've never travelled that but tried that on cathay a year back BOM-DXB and even though it was only 3+ hrs flight...hated it...switched the return to 9W J on the 737 and enjoyed it much more....
thanks for the feedback on IT F....will give it a go sometime...i like the IT domestic product...

CX herringbone is *much* narrower from what I can see - Jet's is fine for me and my family - just my 2 cents! :p

Have flown 9W F at last

Well I finally managed to squeeze my trip to India in last week, flying F both ways (LHR-BOM & DEL-LHR). I guess I picked quiet days as I had the whole cabin to myself both ways!

With regards the hard product, it's right up there with the best of them. A very comfortable seat that turns into a good size bed as well. Good (but not great) selection on the IFE, but the quality of the headphones & the screen were very good.

The food I found to be a let down. One the way out all choices were Indian cuisine. Whilst I appreciate it's an Indian airline, the LHR - India route would suggest there will be a few westerners on board & I think BA have got it right on the route, offering either. The Indian meal that I did have was pretty good, but too spicy for me. Again, whilst this may be perfect for your average Indian who is used to it, I think it made it toughh to have a good meal unless you enjoyed spicy food.

On the return there were a mixture of western & Indian meals. Having been on the road for a week, the idea of some simple western style food was appealing, but the fish I ordered was pretty horrible. Infact the only food that tasted OK was the canapes, the ice cream & the pop corn! Now I do admit I am a fussy eater, so perhps it was just me, but stil.....

The wine list was top quality, as was the coffee served on board. I managed a bottle of Dom P on the way out & few glasses of a good Margaux on the return.

What makes the Jet experience stand out for me is the airport staff. I loved getting whisked through security at both ends, having a chap to hold my bag etc & the real time saver was on the return to LHR where a buggy met me off the plane and got me to the front of passport control whilst the rest were still walking from the plane!!

All things considered, a great experience & next time will take a few sandwiches on board with me!

.....

Unfortunately, Indian airlines tend to be very weak on the western options. Their bread and butter clientèle is of Indian origin and they tend to favour the Indian options very much similar to the choices on their IFE which will be skewed heavily in favour of Bollywood.

ex-BOM, i tend to find that the Asian Vegeterian option is usually the best but then again i am of Indian origin and i can eat curries for breakfast!

Speaking of champagne, the Jet website is now mentioning that Krug is now served in First Class (it disappeared a while ago). Anyone able to confirm?

It was Dom only on both my flights, hardly a chore compared to the cr*p BA serve in F at present!

btw, the website also mentions that Dom Perignon is also served in Prémiere? This would be very unusual for a business class product. Can anyone confirm that this is true?

This is very true and the beauty of 9w biz...

However, it is off and on, depending on the economy - or maybe the direction of the wind! :p

See this thread where it is discussed: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/airli...m-back-9w.html

(Anyway, I prefer Dom up in the air! ^ )

...and service like this is why the likes of BA of taken a hammering on the India routes. They got complacent when it was them vs Air India. Now they have to deal with Indian carriers with top notch hardware and excellent inflight services in J.

I wonder what we will be saying in 10 years time?

You know I honestly don't know why someone would contemplate paying the Biz rate for BA to LHR when 9W charges almost same rates.

The service/product is much better on 9W

OneWorld EQM & Tier Points, perhaps?

In any case, for regular flyers (like the denizens of this thread), it beats me why anybody would buy their tickets in India and pay the ridiculous luxury & 'service' taxes to the Babus of North Block? Why not buy the tickets outside India and always get RT tickets?

Base fares are usually more expensive outside India.

Also note that the airlines in India (including the foreign ones, note) possibly only pass on a fraction of the taxes to the government...

very true....but while 9w is much better, i often find myself using ba sometimes because of either their timings or non availability on jet or sometimes when i have to fly from london to new york....
