Update in Hyatt BRG policy (April 2019): If your BRG claim is approved, you can choose either 5,000 World of Hyatt points or an additional 20% off the matched rate for your stay (defined as consecutive nights at the same location). Rates available on websites that require membership which is free of charge, or where membership is automatically created as part of the booking, are eligible for BRG claims.

.................................................. ..........

Recent Experiences Using the BRG (2018 and later)

YES
  • Hotels.com - April 2019
  • Booking.com - May 2019

MAYBE
  • Skoosh - April 2019 (initially rejected as "membership site" but approved on appeal)
NO
  • SnapTravel
.................................................. ..........

Update in Hyatt BRG policy (July 2017): if your BRG claim is approved, Hyatt will match the comparable lower rate, but will no longer offer a further 20% discount on the matched lower rate. Instead, after your stay on the BRG approved rate, you will receive a US$50 credit (or equivalent amount in the currency of your country of residence) to use on a future stay (completed within 12 months) booked on a Standard Rate, Advance Purchase Rate or Member Rate on Hyatt.com.

Q. How do I receive the $50 credit?
A. About 3-4 days after your BRG stay, Hyatt will email you a unique rate code to apply for your new reservation. You can either click on the link in the mail to book the reservation or manually enter it into the booking at Hyatt.com.

Q. Can I use the code more than once?
A. No. The code is invalid when it has already been attached to a reservation.

Q. Can I use the code to lower a rate like AAA or Double Points?
A. No. The BRG code books into its own unique rate class and can't be used with any other promotional rates.

Q. What happens if I cancel my reservation with the BRG code applied?
A. The code will can be re-used for another reservation. For this reason, DO NOT DELETE THE EMAIL FROM HYATT UNTIL AFTER YOUR STAY.

Q. What happens if a lower base rate appears available after I book the BRG rate?
A. You can cancel the first reservation (assuming there's no penalty) and then rebook using the code for the lower rate.

.................................................. ..........

If you are dissatisfied with the response to your BRG claim, and it was processed by the Hyatt Service Desk in Omaha (9805 Q Street), you can consider filing a consumer complaint (link to online form) with the Nebraska Attorney General's Office (Consumer Protection Division). Note that the online complaint form requires you to fill in a correspondence address in the US (though you can state a preference to receive correspondence by e-mail rather than by post). As reported in Post # 2691, if the AG's Office decides to investigate, it is possible that Hyatt will review your BRG claim again and, in addition, offer points for the inconvenience.

If your BRG claim was processed by the Hyatt Service Desk in Marion (1120 North Carbon Street Suite 70), you can consider filing a consumer complaint (link to online form) with the Illinois Attorney General's Office.

Nope. Any voucher site is excluded because the booking isn't confirmed until you receive the voucher.

I know it may not be popular with folks who want to moan that random site A doesn't work (for obviously stupid reasons), but I find that the rules make my life rather easier. Rather than looking far and wide I simply run a search via kayak. Kayak allows me to filter based on chain and I know that virtually all of the OTAs Kayak monitors are acceptable to Hyatt BRG.

Based on dozens of BRG claims - virtually all approved - my only issue is finding flexible competing rates so that I can change my mind later. It is actually relatively rare for me to not be able to find a lower rate, particularly when I have flexibility on dates. (made easier because I just have to check kayak rather than dozens of sites for the sweetspot on dates - you'd be surprised how changing arrival date by one day +/- can move the competing rate substantially)

Maybe it's not the absolute lowest rate out there, or the fact that international hotels are easier to BRG than US ones, but I think the Hyatt BRG programme is a lot better than this thread makes it out to be.

BRG success:
Grand Hyatt Singapore daily rate $388 SGD
Competitor: kayak.com thru getaroom.com 199 USD or ~268SGD refundable
After BRG: ~$158USD or $213 SGD
Checked kayak.com and they have private sale thru getaroom.com. I filled out BRG form and stated kayak.com / getaroom.com + attached pdf. The next morning, i received email and they accepted my BRG.

Let's not forget that Hyatt's BRG was alot more responsive in the past than it is now. Hyatt BRG used to be processed over the phone, but it is now via a claim submission.

As per this thread, the submission process is very hit and miss and agent don't always reply within 24 hours as stated.

Several have had to refiled claims for some reason or another.

I've been rejected by agents even if I attach a screenshot of the lower rate because the rate is no longer available on the website 24 hours later.

It is the norm for agents to ask me to resend the screenshots since moving to this system.

Many of the sites that used to be allowed for BRG are no longer allowed.

Hyatt Gold Passport Concierge is no long able to help with claims.

I once need about 2-3 weeks for a BRG claim to be processed!

If you file a claim after making a non-refundable booking and the BRG is invalid you are screwed because it is outside your cancellation window for the non-refundable rate.

If you don't make a booking and you file a BRG claim, there is a risk that the hyatt.com rate / room type "sells out" or the hotel pulls availability. This will make it an invalid BRG. (Happened to me before)

When the system works, meaning the claim is processed within 24 hours with no issue, I am fine.

But considering that about 1/3 times I have either needed to refile claims or resend screenshot or been rejected for weird reasons. I consider the present system a downgrade from the prior system overall.

I am glad you are having little to no trouble with this system, just be happy you didn't need to experience a 2-3 week wait for a BRG claim to be processed.

Man, where have I been all this time?!? BRG is currently one of the best things ever! While I can typically get good rates with my corporate code, sometimes those aren't available or BRG trumps that.

Recent success:
Hyatt Regency Pier 66 - daily rate $169 (no corporate code availability)
Competitor: tripadviser thru hotelsclick.com - $162
After BRG: 130

Hyatt Regency Miami - daily rate $139 (but $119 on corporate code)
Competitor: amoma.com - $108
After BRG: $87

Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress - daily rate $209 (but $135 on corporate code)
Competitor: tripadviser thru hotelsclick.com - $149
After BRG: $119

Last week I booked a rate including breakfast and it was approved (amoma.com) by Lydia.

This weekend booked another rate including breakfast and it rejectend by Timothy:

"I have reviewed your claim and determined that, based on packages not covered under our Best Rate Guarantee program, this reservation is not eligible for our Best Rate Guarantee.."

What is a package deal? Amazing (or should I say frustrating) how they can be so inconsistent.

How does one find out their corporate rate? I assume you are saying you plug in your company corporate rate code when making a personal reservation? My company travel portal gets pretty good rates but I don't see a specific code listed.....

There were some tips above about calling HR to get it or calling Hyatt to ask directly. I'm not sure of all that.

My company's discount portal just has a link for Hyatt. When you click it, it gives you the corporate code. And yes the discount portal is all for personal use.

BRG Strategy

We want to extend our 4 night stay at a Hyatt resort to 8 nights.

We are 3 couples each w/ our own initial reservation enhanced by a HRG rate.

Any reason not to book the additional 4 nights as one reservation for all of us?( 3 rooms)

And if I do, and one couple backs out will it effect the BRG rate ( which I think I can get on this new reservation) if the reservation changes by one room less?

Thanks

That is why it is truly being rejected -- it is a voucher site where the payment is made to a company that has bought a block of rooms and not directly to the hotel in question.

It was disallowed appropriately but for the wrong stated reason.

If you book the four nights separately, it will be treated as a separate reservation, up until you check-in when, one way or another they'll be merged (either the hotel will link them or you'll have to check-out of your room after the third night and check back in).

If one couple backs out of the four nights then, yes, you'll have a problem because you'll have to cancel one room. If one couple backs out of the (first) three nights, the BRG goes out the window as you'll have to change the reservation to whatever the current rate is.
