I'm on that already.. however I'd probably pay a few more bucks if they would guarantee that the stay would post and post correctly

Just completed a stay here on Sat. night. Paid $47 AAA rate. Lobby was still under construction and they didn't have any food yet. No vending but they were selling cans of soda & bottled water for $1. Breakfast was served in the meeting room, and consisted of scrambled eggs & sausage, assorted cereals & yogurts, donuts, bagels, muffins, bananas & french toast. Three kinds of coffee, but no juice. Room was totally redone except for the tub. There was a new curved shower rod which made the shower very roomy.

My only complaints were the lighting was terrible by the couch. Bright yellowish lights which couldn't be dimmed. The bed room area lights were much better. Also, it was very windy Sat. night and you could hear the wind blowing through the windows. Sound proofing was terrible! We heard a few guests in the lobby complain about this. We also had requested a crib, and when we arrived the person who checked us in said "Oh! you requested a crib. I'm sorry we don't have one for you. We only have one and it's pretty bad." Hot water was also a gamble.

I've done the past four fridays at this property (two at $55 each and two at $47 each) which have been a great bargain considering the 2X credit.

As of today, only two stays have posted, my 2nd and 3rd stays

I'm curious to see when my 4th stay posts if the 1000 point bonus will hit; and will that also include the HPHZ 500 point bonus too

The lobby was starting to look a little better this past friday; but the breakfast room was a mess and had very little in it at 8:15 a.m. Saturday.. they didn't do much to replenish the items that were gone either. Hopefully they do a better job when the construction is complete

Yes I found their breakfast service pretty dismal. At 0630 they had just started to lay food out. As I had the 0700 shuttle booked, I gave up eat at Dulles.

I did the self check-in machines at the entrance, which the employee assumed I had never seen before. I did explain that I usually break the one at the GH NY for some reason - but these worked fine, even on a AAA rate.

i was told sunday morning that the coffee bar was to open today (tuesday) or Wednesday and the breakfast may move there as well. the wine bar will be a little longer. apparently they are still in the process of getting a license

Exclamation Shuttle service to/from IAD is complimentary!

If those of you had not read the above post, I will make this quite clear:

Although the hotel shuttle emphasizes that it will take you anywhere within a radius of 5 miles, and Dulles airport is quite a bit farther from this hotel than that distance, the front desk confirmed to me that they will shuttle you to and from Dulles at no charge!

Although I was driving, I enquired for those of you who were thinking of flying in for a quick mattress run. The hotel shuttle generally departs for the airport at 5:30 AM (so I was told) and cycles on the hour. However, the front desk said that it can be requested on an "on demand" basis, as well.

In addition, you can arrange beforehand, to have the shuttle meet you when disembarking from your flight, or call once you arrive at IAD, since it may take some time for you to get your bags and/or your flight might be late, and they intimated to me that they took a dim view if you did not show up for the shuttle at the requested time.

I personally like the hotel, and even though I have nothing more than basic Gold Passport status, I received a voucher for 1/2 off any food item for sale, or for a free Starbucks specialty coffee -- I chose the latter and was given a comp. medium Iced Moccachino for my drive home.

For a AAA rate of $63, with taxes, less than $70, it was a steal in this FFN earning period! By the way, decent exercise room, although the Life Fitness treadmills do not have a TV built into the screen, as the Hyatt on Capitol Hill and the Crystal City hotels, have. Noentheless, the value is excellent at this property.

One final thought.

The front desk was flummoxed by my request for AAdvantage miles. Apparently, they do not have many FF mileage programs input into their system, as I assume most people have requested GP points.

I saw only Delta and United and presumably now AAdvantage set up for this.

Therefore, if you wish to earn FF mileage from the 30 or so programs that you can, you might do well to e-mail them beforehand that you wish to do so and in which program, so that they will not be caught unawares when you check in.

I will report tomorrow if I received my AAdvantage miles.

The HP front desk staffs often seem flummoxed with basic requests for GP points as well in my experience. Especially if you are asking for them to add a "G" code to the reservation. They seem to be very unaware of anything GP related other than trying to get people to sign up for the GP program.

This post made me laugh, because when I was there, I had to explain what the FFN promotion was to the front desk. I was thinking maybe because the promo was new (for this year) and because the hotel was recently converted to a Hyatt property, that they were just unfamiliar with the promo. Apparently, it's not just the promo that they are confused about

Well, my AAdvantage 500 miles posted today -- right on schedule -- and no more than 5 hours later, the 1,000 bonus AAdvantage miles posted, as well.

Moreover, the stay was recorded as having been paid with a MC, and again, some time later today, I received my FFN award as this was my 2nd stay this past weekend. ^

I like this HP more than the other HP Dulles ones; the rooms are not as noisy as Chantilly and the rooms all have baths (I believe) unlike Herndon. It also is close to more places to eat and shopping than the other two if you don't have a car.

The service, however, leaves something to be desired. I had a reservation at the Crowne Plaza Dulles on a cheap rate, but decided I'd rather have HP that night. So I called using the airport phones to check rates and availability for HP North and South. Same rate, both with rooms. I decided whichever shuttle just showed first was the hotel I'd go with.

I caught this shuttle as it was leaving with a VA crew. The driver rolled down his window and asked what I wanted. I said a room. The driver asked me if I wanted this hotel, whether I wanted Sterling, and a couple of times which number I called. I was taken aback that he just wouldn't take my suitcase and take me to the hotel. A VA crewmember interjected, "the reason he's asking is because there are a number of Hyatt Places around here." I said I knew that. After a bit more back and forth with the driver, I impatiently said, "I know *this* hotel. I want *this* hotel." He had called the front desk and even after I said that, he asked me what my name was and tried to almost start to book me a reservation then and there. I said incredulously, "Is there a problem with simply taking me to the hotel and me walking in and getting a room there." At that point, he told the FD over the phone that I'd just book the room there.

So I did, and the FD agent was nice enough, promising me, as Platinum, the "nicest room in the place." (I couldn't tell if she was joking or actually trying to pass off a normal HP room-which it was-as a nicer room for me under her false assumption I'd never stayed there before.) Her 4-year-old(?) son was taking up one of the computers in the business center though, which really bothered me when the other one froze up on me after the second time, especially since one of the major reasons I wanted HP over the cheaper Crowne Plaza was the free use of the computer.

In the morning, the toaster caught fire inside. I'm not sure how much to blame them for, considering pieces of English muffin can stick to the rungs. But I've never seen that before and wondered how much they cleaned it.

After I checked out, I asked for the manager's card or email. I got the Assistant GM's card instead.

All in all, a frustrating stay, though the room was clean and I had no problems with housekeeping.

Noting the past two threads date from 2007 and 2011, this is a new update. Have stayed at this prop several times over the spring and summer of 2013.

In a few words, the newness reported above has worn away and the prop is showing it's age. Hallway carpets are worn through near the elevators, the internet often times doesn't work for 24 hours, and some rooms have no open electrical outlets at the work desk.

It's become common place to see empty pizza boxes and other food containers in the hallway when leaving in the morning. One stay I had to ask at the FD to get the floor vacuumed (from stuff left there from previous 'guest'), somehow they missed doing it for two days in a row, not counting room turned over from previous guest/occupant.

Last stay I noticed some construction workers staying two to a room, younger guys, looked like seasonal summer workers. They were going out and down the elevators to smoke every 20 or 30 minutes. It got annoying hearing doors open and close every night until 11 or 12 pm, these were the same guys who'd leave empty pizza and beer cans outside their room door.

I've also observed multiple times people being walked ("Sorry, we're overbooked") to other Hyatt props nearby.

In summary, the Hyatt House in Sterling, VA, a few miles away is a better value, seems more recently renovated rooms, has better maintained lobby and rooms, downside is the location is more isolated.
