It looks like as of September 30th, the Hyatt and MGM Resorts partnership is ending.

It looks like I won't get free parking anymore, which as a Vegas local, is pretty sad news.

As excited as I was about this when I got into the travel-awards game 6 years ago, I never ended up making much use of it. We were able to go to Vegas once and get some benefits with the status match . The second trip was in March 2020 and the MGM hotel cancelled our stay the day we were supposed to check in (thanks Hyatt Place - Silverton for taking us in that night, and numerous other Hyatts that week for not abruptly shutting down and kicking customers to the curb last minute).
And, I never saw any advantage to booking through Hyatt.com over directly with MGM.

This was predicted and stated by somebody a few months ago and most people laughed at them. Knew this was coming. Hyatt probably was no longer benefiting from the people minting endless numbers of $20 ghost stays the Excalibur.

My guess is that the status match component of the partnership really made little sense to MGM once they started putting more emphasis on growing the value of MGM Rewards for gamers. 10 years ago Mlife was more focused on acquiring leisure travelers.

Have you heard of anybody who uses Hyatt status gained on the back of their MGM status? I'm sure they exist but they don't make themselves known.

The Cosmopolitan is probably the model they'd like to follow going forward, where they can acquire the customers on a property specific basis with tailored benefits without having to give away the entire house.

I know people like to joke about the ghost stays... but this is the same Hyatt that hemorrhages 20 night Globalist-lite challenges. If the program is creating value you crack down on the abuse, not end the whole thing. It seems like the partnership was one sided and MGM didn't need it anymore.

Makes little sense to chase Globalist anymore, I need those Vegas nights to get to 60. I typically don't earn close to gold tier anymore points because I my stays have been crediting to Hyatt, ( once they did away with dual accumulation)

Hilarious all the people who told 777 global mile hound that they were so crazy, wrong or even worse when they reported being given this info a few months back. Eminently foreseeable this event has been for a long time. Told my spouse in January I expected this gone by 2024. Sad to see I was right.

They may have ultimately been correct, but the basis for the statements was pretty thin. If I had a dollar for every time I read a "I heard from a line-level CS rep that..." post on FT, I'd have many, many dollars.

Important Update about Our Relationship with MGM Rewards
We are writing to inform our World of Hyatt Members that the strategic relationship between MGM Rewards and World of Hyatt is ending on September 30, 2023.

World of Hyatt members who have tier matched into MGM Rewards between February 1, 2023, and July 14, 2023 will retain their MGM Rewards tier status until January 31, 2024. After January 31, 2024, World of Hyatt members must achieve or maintain the applicable MGM Rewards tier in accordance with the MGM Rewards program terms to be entitled to any such related benefits.

MGM Rewards members who have tier matched into World of Hyatt between March 1, 2023, and July 14, 2023, will retain their World of Hyatt tier status until February 29, 2024. After February 29, 2024, MGM Rewards members must qualify for World of Hyatt elite status in accordance with World of Hyatt program terms and conditions.

MGM Resorts will honor all existing reservations at MGM Resorts destinations in Las Vegas booked through Hyatt channels (e.g., Hyatt.com, Hyatt Global Care Center, or the World of Hyatt mobile application). For eligible stays at MGM Resorts destinations with a checkout date prior to or on September 30, 2023, World of Hyatt members will still be able to earn World of Hyatt points and World of Hyatt Tier-Qualifying Night credits for such stays. However, World of Hyatt members will no longer be eligible to earn World of Hyatt points or World of Hyatt Tier-Qualifying Night credits for stays with a check-out date after September 30, 2023.

For eligible stays at Hyatt hotels with a checkout date prior to or on September 30, 2023, MGM Rewards members will still be able to elect to earn MGM Rewards Tier Credits for such stays. However, MGM Rewards members will no longer be able to elect to earn MGM Rewards Tier Credits at Hyatt hotels for stays with a check-out date after September 30, 2023.

Yeah but the difference was, at least for me, 1, the fact that it was a reputable poster who 2, was given pretty detailed info by a rep that would make zero sense to be completely out of the blue false, 3, was a conclusion that was totally foreseeable regardless, 4, had a couple other people being given that info as I recall. I'm not saying the OP should have been 100 percent taken a gospel the moment it was said but the number of people who derisively scoffed was comical as if the original poster was posting they were walking on water or something.

This is unfortunate, I earned a lot of nights and points over the past few years from legitimate stays. So this will just be a clear net decline in benefits for MGM stays.

Not surprising on the MGM side since I doubt Hyatt brought them much business and casinos operate like the gamblers they rely on - when times are good they think they can never lose. MGM is mostly in the mode right now of being on a winning streak and tightening up on benefits and services to customers since they feel like they don't need to deliver anything to earn profit.

So for those of us who have been riding the merry go round of Explorist/Gold to keep Hyatt Explorist status, it appears the ride will come to an end March 1, 2024. Is this correct? I know Explorist didn't really provide many benefits, but it came in handy from time to time for later Hyatt check-outs than Discoverists. I guess I better enjoy "the perks" through the end of Feb 2024.

If I am wrong and there is a work around to keep Explorist through Feb 2025 without actually spending the required nights, I'm all ears.
