Fully agreed - and when they mention they gave me the best room available, tell me where to get breakfast, ask me proactively if I need a 4pm check-out, etc. - shows that they do recognize the benefits of loyalty the program (vs. other unnamed ones where they find the hotel owners/developers as the #1 customer).

Or better yet for me, let kiosk and app check-in work to check-in and get keys all while sparing people from having to wait to talk to a hotel employee when they don’t need or want to do so. The machine greeting and “thank you for being a valued whatever” is fine by me as long as it doesn’t impinge upon delivery of status benefits.

That will certainly come with time, as everything will be automated in the future as it is already for the most part.

Some HP locations used to have checkin kiosks in the lobby, back in the Passport days. I don’t think they could issue the key cards, so you still had to go to the checkin desks. That was before you could check in on the app.

Huh. I feel like my status has been acknowledged every time, every property, that I've been to in the last 2 years (rough count -- about 10 full service properties and 4 limited service properties). The last time it didn't happen was at Thompson Dallas right after they opened.

Unfortunately, even with hotel apps that say you can skip the desk, there's ALWAYS some reason I have to go to the check-in desk anyway. To get welcome gifts, or ask for an upgrade (even at HP) or whatever including to give them my freakin credit card info again :( I would like to see the day ALL of this is automated even with a welcome snack/water vending machine controlled by your reservation in the app. And a way to select your upgrade in the app at no charge.

Hyatt IT is known to be extremely weak. While this would be nice, I would like to see them firm up on basic features first.

I failed to mention 2 additional DPs. I am checking into a HR today and received a text message this morning welcoming me as a Globalist. Also, I received an email a few days ago also welcoming me as a Globalist and listed out benefits.

I receive these text/emails almost always before a stay. I think this definitely indicates that properties are aware of status and reservations before actual check in.

Curious to know if everyone, especially Globalist, receive these messages?

I have a stay starting in a few days. I already received a welcome email and a list of benefits the particular hotel provides for "Explorists" in my case. The email came from the property manager. I was actually happy to receive the email since it's a brand-new property and not much additional information available.

I completely agree!! Like you mentioned especially for new properties. I love it when they send an attached PDF with all of the hotel details, activities, what’s included, restaurants, etc. I save in iBooks for reference.

Also, these emails and texts open the opportunity to be able to directly communicate with the hotel. I have used it for special requests etc and they have always exceeded any expectations.

Hello again, another DP. I just parked with Valet. When they asked my name for the ticket, the valet came back and welcomed me as a Globalist and said my valet parking is free. $50/night!

I have started noticing these little details more since posted on FT and Reddit

It's probably FREE because the valet assistant plans to take it out on spin tonight! 🏎️🏁😁 That actually happened to me once when I had a nice sports car. I got rid of my vehicles so don't have to worry about that anymore.

More or less, in full service properties of course. Never did or expected to receive a pre-arrival note in a select service property, but I did receive a post-stay text once thanking me for a 9/10 in HySat at a Hyatt Place in Asia.

On another note, has anyone ever received birthday messages from properties?

OMG 😳. We have trackers in our vehicles. Twice our favorite vehicle was stolen in front of our house in SoBe. We are leery of valet in Miami but we trust Hyatt properties (and our trackers, etc). I just checked now and it’s parked out front!

Some of those kiosk machines back then — well before there was a Hyatt app allowing check-in online — did issue me room key cards. Nowadays, more often than not, hotel check-in kiosks don’t work for me even where they are pretty obviously running up the electric bills for the hotels. And even at properties with app check-in on, it isn’t a global given that I will get a mobile key in the app without first checking in in-person with hotel personnel — and that includes even some Hyatt properties where I have rarely or never shown any photo ID to check-in.
