The reason I try to avoid a whole bunch of Hyatt Places is because the temperature control comes with a lot of very annoyingly loud AC noise, and the balancing act between “the right temperature” for rest and a quiet night’s sleep run in tension with way too many Hyatt Places and even many a Hyatt.Originally Posted by Segments
A temperature of 78-80 degrees may not be too your preference (or mine) but doesn’t rise to the level of uninhabitable. Especially when the eco conscious say our thermostat should be set at 78 degrees in the summer.
78F is high enough for some to make for a more uncomfortable period of attempted rest than having it below that. And if it’s that high at night in the accommodation and humid, then trying to rest in the room during the day may feel even less comfortable than it may be at night.
When and if I pick a place where I want a good night’s rest and even comfortable daytime use of a room, I likely want to be able to control the indoor temperature and have it able to go and stay reliably under a temperature setting under 78-80F. To escape the heat and related nightly discomfort is why and how I developed a preference to travel and picked destinations and accommodations in line with that. If my informed purchase decision for a stay at a property was done in significant part to be able to sleep or hang out more comfortably indoors with temperature control in mind, then I would be disappointed with the property’s service if it failed on that front. For example, after spending way too long in 98F+ heat, “getting back to civilization” with proper running water and a cool place to rest up and relax may well mean being annoyed if a property can’t live up to providing those comforts being sought for a stay.
Setting my thermostats for 78F would be a bad energy consumer where I spend most of my time.

I'm in a hotel right now and that's about the temperature I keep my room. I hate freezing A/C. And I hate those hotels like in Dubai that don't go above 22 Celsius unless you completely turn it off.Originally Posted by Segments

IMO, the compensation you already received is more than reasonable for the circumstances.
Taken to the extreme: What if you had booked two months at the first hotel. Checked in and found the temperature unacceptable for the night you were there. Switched to another hotel for the rest of your two month stay. You would expect his hotel to pay for your two month stay at another hotel?
I would also switch hotels but know many people who find 80 perfectly acceptable or preferable.
