I recieved notifications from Alila Ventana Big Sur and Carmel Valley Highlands that they are closed with no opening date specified. Not surprising.

Apparently you don’t follow the news but NOBODY knows when the pandemic will end. All the “reopening” dates are just guesses and should be ignored. This should be common sense to anyone who considers themselves educated at this point... also it should be common sense that this is NOT the time to be bargain hunting and/or planning leisure or business travel. This is the time to STAY home and plan nothing...
Im glad somebody finally said this.

I’d say a perfectly fine thing to do is to stay home, but plan travel for future dates at which time things may or may not be better. California’s “Lockdown” is set to end April 19th. So it would be great to plan opening within a week after that. In the event that things are not any better by then extend it further. But saying June, or even July seems drastic considering restaurants and hotels in China are re-opening now. I personally would prefer to be told we had to push our re-opening back a few weeks rather than we aren’t opening again for 2-3 months.

Being optimistic isn’t harmful. And there’s no bargains being hunted as Hyatt pushed back their off peak schedule. Again if they should be ignored they shouldn’t announce re-opening dates in the first place. They should just say re-opening date TBD then have Hyatt Corporate send out a mass email stating all US properties that were closed are now open and do this for each individual country/region as they recover. But saying 2 weeks at one, then 3 weeks at another then 45 days at another and 3 months at another property just isn’t efficient and shows a lack of uniformity.

Matt, you just don't get it, there is a major lack of sensitivity in your posts, that's what you must realize.

I’m born and raised in California I just call it how I see it. We are used to disasters, but we are planners and we know that in time this will end and life will go on. Californians, we are under the strictest orders right now in all of the US to be on lockdown, excuse me for wanting to see some light at the end of a long tunnel to look forward to a time where things are better again.

If Hyatt said they’re closing everything until June 1st what I am saying is that is perfectly fine with me, it would just be nice to have uniformity in a brand rather than scattered differences.

28 actually Hedoman.

The hope for good is never wrong. You just don't communicate in a sensitive way. Have you ever heard "it's not what you say it's how you say it"? It's management 101, and here when communicating with others you need to learn that OR risk offending the majority of readers. Your choice to listen or not. I'm done trying to reason.

It’s a bit hard to show empathy through text.

I don’t know what you’d want me to saw honestly. That the people going out to beaches and still going to bars (the few that are open) are a major health risk and they’ll keep everything shut down for everyone even longer because they are spreading the virus? Yes, that’s true.

I do feel bad for everyone displaced, I feel bad for those still working because they likely have to come in contact with others not knowing if they’ll contract the virus themselves. It’s a bad situation all around. I have a lot of family across the country that a good portion are over 50. I get depressed thinking I might not see them again, it’s an actual possibility, though I try not to focus on that because what good does that do?

If you’ve read most of my posts you’d know my wedding was set for March 29th, which we had to postpone due to COVID-19. It’s taken a major toll on my fiancé and I as it took us a year to line up the venue, caterers, guests everything all gone. We were going to Andaz Papagayo for our Honeymoon, something we’ve never done and were greatly looking forward to as newlyweds. It breaks our hearts to have this done. We are taking things one day at a time.

Please excuse me if right now I’m a bit to the point rather than using extra sensitivity. I’m emotionally exhausted and I’m just trying to be as optimistic as possible about future months, I won’t mention uniformity or anything like that again. I wish you all nothing but the best, stay safe with your families.

Hyatt Place Mystic (CT) closed until 5/21. Now I just have to get an extension on my free night award, that I was using prior to its expiration.
