I hear from a hotel source Grand Hyatt Kauai has now gone indefinite closure with the expectation it will not reopen till there is a vaccine or the virus fades away. They are projecting mid-2021.

I have a wedding block booked there for a client in September. I just reached out to the sales team to see if they had any information about reopening. I'll post if there is anything interesting from their response.

Sad but not surprising. I'm not sure who owns GH Kauai, but whomever it is is going to be in some seriously deep yogurt. You can't have an asset like that sit with no revenue for a year.... very few owners could survive that... and unlike with a Hurricane I seriously doubt insurance will make them whole.

The Governor of Hawaii wants COVID eradicated from the State (much as they have succeeded in doing on other islands, see New Zealand). They are close. The last thing they will do is lift the quarantine any time soon....

They were planning to reopen despite their pool still being under construction which seemed ill-advised considering most SoCal travelers right now are staycationers. Hopefully by opening on Sept 1 they'll have all the work complete.

You don't have access to any Hyatt proprietary info or systems so thus you really have no idea. They also aren't going to tell you how many rooms they have sold if you call them/email/tweet them - so please don't - and the Concierges also don't know how many rooms are actually booked.

I have Hawaii booked between Xmas and New Year. I'm going to make alternative plans just in case.
