... Many data points on this. IMHO it's infuriating. It's not like the members are children asking for another pudding cup in the high school cafeteria. It's now August and I've already stayed 100 nights. If Hyatt made me grovel to use my free night when it fits my schedule, I'd take my 100 nights back to Starriott (which has very clear rules on extending certificates).

6 months on Cat 1-7 cert is tough. I have 1 expiring in December and I have no plans to be anywhere near a Cat 7 hotel before then. I don't have a problem with Cat 1-4 cert, but Cat 1-7 is a lot more difficult to use within 6 months, and get real value.

This is the problem here: People see Cat 1-7 awards as Cat 7 awards.

I'm nowhere near a 100+ night person, but of those who are, I could see a fair number having 90%+ of those nights paid by employer, then only staying at Cat 5+ on a longer vacation or 2 with family. The 100+ night population is already kinda small though.

Per the twitter team, they Stopped exchanging points for expired certs this year...
“It has never been an actual policy. In the past, we extended courtesy points for expired awards, however we stopped doing this at the beginning of this year. We are no longer able to offer points for expired awards, and could not give extensions. I do apologize for any inconvenience. ^KR”

Anyone done this more recently? I have one expiring in two weeks and had to cancel the rez I had b/c kid school start date is an entire WEEK earlier than last year. WTH. It is possible I could use it on the exact date of the expiration (a rez starting that day), but I'm not sure yet.

No, I look at it as a Cat 1-7. If I'm able to use it at a Cat 7, great, but I don't look at it as being shortchanged if I "only" get to use it at a Cat 5 or 6, or if I don't get to use it at a Cat 7 on New Year's Eve in a prime destination when rates are triple.
This thread is full of people who stay at Hyatt frequently but seem to hold on to their free nights waiting for a max redemption opportunity that often never arrives.
