World of Hyatt Credit Card benefit details and notes
Anniversary Free Night Award (Category 1-4)
- Issued 10 weeks after cardmember anniversary date
- Expires 1 year after issuance
- Ineligible for use with Club Lounge Access Awards and Complimentary Suite Upgrade Awards
- The spend counter for this benefit tracks total cumulative purchases during the current calendar year (excluding $95 annual fee and any other non-qualifying transactions).
- The spend counter for this benefit resets at the beginning of every calendar year. Chase does not make this spend counter visible to customers, so interested customers must calculate their own. Note that this is a separate spend counter from the "Two Additional Night Credits" spend counter below.
- Issued 1-2 days after statement closing date of the triggering transaction (the transaction causing the spend counter to cross $15k)
- Expires 1 year after issuance
- Ineligible for use with Club Lounge Access Awards and Complimentary Suite Upgrade Awards
- Cardmembers are eligible for only 1 Additional Free Night Award per calendar year (e.g., spending $30k does not result in two Additional Free Night Awards
- The spend counter for this benefit tracks total cumulative purchases since account opening (excluding $95 annual fee and any other non-qualifying transactions)
- This spend counter never resets. Chase does not make this spend counter visible to customers, so interested customers must calculate their own. Note that this is a separate spend counter from the "Additional Free Night Award" spend counter above.
- Issued 1-2 days after statement closing date of the triggering transaction (the transaction causing the spend counter to cross a multiple of $5k)
- For World of Hyatt status qualification purposes, the night credits are associated with the TRANSACTION date of the triggering transaction, not the posting date and not the statement closing date. For example, triggering transactions on 12/31/2022 (transaction date) will result in 2 night credits for the 2022 status year, regardless of posting date or statement closing date. Based on FT reports, transaction date appears to be based on the US Eastern Time Zone.
- World of Hyatt Credit Card: timing for $5k spend 2 qualifying nights
- 4 Bonus Points per $1 spent on purchases at Hyatt hotels
- 2 Bonus Points per $1 spent on restaurants, airline tickets purchased directly from the airline, local transit and commuting, and fitness club and gym memberships
- 1 Bonus Point per $1 spent on all other purchases
- Discoverist status every year
- 5 qualifying night credits every year
- No foreign transaction fees
- Travel & purchase coverage
Other notes and tips
Chase spending tracker

- Chase website: From the main page, on the right hand side, click the "Spending & Budgeting" menu, then choose "Spending Summary"
- Remember to add spend from prior calendar year(s) as needed (see spend counter notes above), and to subtract $95 annual fee and any other non-qualifying transactions from all years
- Full list of non-qualifying transactions: returns, refunds, balance transfers, cash advances, travelers checks, foreign currency, money orders, wire transfers or similar cash-like transactions, lottery tickets, casino gaming chips, race track wagers or similar betting transactions, any checks that access your account, interest, unauthorized or fraudulent charges, and fees of any kind, including an annual fee

Spend counter tracks total cumulative purchases (excluding $95 annual fee) during cardmember year. Spend counter resets every cardmember anniversary date
Spend counter tracks total cumulative purchases (excluding $95 annual fee) since account opening. Spend counter never resets
The first line describes the annual free night you get after 15k spend, once per cardmember year. That spend counter resets every cardmember year on your card anniversary.
The second one describes a different spend counter, the free-running 5k spend counter for 2 stays credited to your account, and that spend counter never resets, it continues to run and credit another 2 nights to your account every time you cross another 5k spend threshold.
The two lines are in different sections. Each one describes a different counter. Since they are different counters, they don't contradict themselves.

The connection with the spend tracker at Chase at least has the advantage of providing a method for timing spend for two-night credits.

I understand the conceptual and accounting distinction that you are making. But think of a person coming to the wiki to seek advice. Will they understand that two things with the same name are distinct from one another, simply because they fall under different headings? And, even if they did, might they not start looking for these counters, even though one cannot find them anywhere?

there's a note saying they are different in each section. Is that new?
Adding the word "virtual" or "internal" might help or it might be even more confusing.
Personally, I think it's fine the way it is. It's describing how it works and it seems to be accurate based on what we know today.

You just made Biggie Fries point.
you don't find them on Chase's site, that text is an attempt to describe this communities best guess as to how Chase internally implements those algorithms. However you can try to compute them yourself using the spend tracker.
I added this to each of the spend counter lines in the wiki:
Note that this is an attempt to describe what we think is Chase's internal algorithm, there's no place to see this spend counter on the web site or in the app.

So my January statement just closed which should grant me my final 2 elite night credits for 2019 to hit 60 nights. I am currently stuck at 58 - had $2k of spend that took a couple days longer than expected to post and missed the December statement cutoff. Ended up at $81.5K of spend for 2019 so I should be due 32 elite nights + the 5 annual. Only have 30+5 on my account thus far. Any idea how long it takes for these retroactive nights to post and my upgrade to Globalist to take effect? Statement closed on 1/20. I see the points in my Hyatt account but no elite nights or upgrade to Globalist yet.

While I don't like TPG as a reliable source, it's a convenient source that I generally think he's fair on values. I personally get better than 1.7cpp with Hyatt, and I struggle to get the value out of Marriott/Hilton, but that's because I'm globalist and really familiar with Hyatt.
50K Hyatt points x 1.7 cpp = $850
Bonvoy Boundless 100K Marriott x 0.8 cpp = $800
Hilton Surpass 125K Hilton points x 0.6 cpp = $750
Another option would be to sign up for a Chase UR earning card with a higher bonus.
Sapphire Preferred 60K UR -> 60K Hyatt x 1.7cpp = $1,020
Ink Business Preferred 80K UR -> 80K Hyatt x 1.7cpp = $1,360
I would take 50K Hyatt over 100K Marriott and 125K Hilton any day of the week.

Don't think of the offer as so low. Convert the signup bonus (points) into actual value.

I have the biggest reserve of points with WOH right now and the best ability to earn versus redeem via the UR cards, so that is a keeper.
Bonvoy I have a few points left, enough for one Cat 4 night, but once I zero out that balance, I will probably downgrade my card (SPG) if I can. I really have to decide whether $95 is worth having a standalone random annual night when it will take too much to get other award nights and my whole goal is to minimize my costs on my family vacations.
So, in the interests of diversifying of finding a place with a much bigger footprint then Hyatt, and not wanting to get my wife involved in the CC game, I personally am waiting for IHG's card to go up again. Although the SW 75K offer is very tempting as well, but we normally pay out of pocket for flights since i have the Alaska companion certificates via two cards
